On my almost annual visit to San Francisco. Always had this romantic idea about what it was like in the Haight in the late 60s. Probably not based on any reality. I was 16 years old living on the East Coast during the Summer of Love and as much as I think it must have been quite a time, I'm sure it is not everything I imagine it to have been.

Anyone out there who was here during that time? Heck, even the Boys had left for Marin County by 1968.

The Haight I knew in the 80's when I was out there was totally different, no more hippies (lotsa punks and hookers) and captured in this lyric:

looking good you old hippy! Now those houses are priceless and owned by metrosexual earth nuts. A lot have been completely revamped. Anyway, that place has an energy that is not in every city in the world. I hope you really enjoy yourself my friend, Jon

Very cool heptet! I was out there then but was only 1 year old and staying in the city with my grandmother in the city while my dad was at the army foreign language school in Monterey getting ready to be sent to Vietnam. I did spend about 4 months living in friend's basement on the corner of Page and Divisidero in 1986. I haven't been out there since my daughter was born 4 years ago. I love that city. Have fun!

Yep, familiar with Magnolia. I love this city, but every time I come I am puzzled as to how one can actually live here. I know people damn near 40 years old living together like college kids because no one can afford to live here any other way. And from many people I know who have tried, you need three jobs and it takes 45 minutes to get anywhere. Love it, nevertheless.

I'll never forget the first time I got to the Haight. It was 85 I think and I was all of 20. Had just done the cross country trip with a girlfriend (at the moment) and had finally found our friend of a friend in rockin SF. The next day we ventured down to the Haight (they lived over on Clay) to walk around and take it all in. Cold foggy May day. I'm a naive deadhead looking for 710 and old hippies. Stepping over the kids living on the sidewalk. We got to a bar and are throwing back a few and I got up to take a leak. I'm in there peeing and I hear these guys talking and one is counting, 25, 26 27 and on. I'm thinking WTF, but you know bathroom - whatever. I'm walking out and see the 2 dudes, looked like me and they were sort of surprised and seemed to try very poorly to hide what I could tell was a sheet of acid or mescaline, with 100 hits on it! Bathroom deal in the Haight. I felt somehow I was in the right place.
