I just picked up a nice MC300 from a fellow Rukind'r and i wanted to know if there is a manual that tells what the coil taps do, i.e. up is coil tapped, middle is phase, down is what? You know what i mean?

sweet guitar, I would ask the feller you got it from since it may have been modded to be that way. To be sure you have to look at the switch under the hood and diagram the colors, grounding and solder points on the switch. I am sure it can be figured from there depending on the types of pickups you have, (some use different color wires). Good luck!!

It's a little complicated in that some MC300s are wired one way, and some the opposite way. The most common switch orientation, I believe, is the one I have, which is as follows:

Down=Full Humbucker

Middle=Split Coil

Up=Phase reversal.

It's pretty easy to work out, as one of the two extreme positions (up or down) will sound very full, and one (phase reverse) will sound weaker and quieter, but still potentially cool for certain applications if you turn up the volume to compensate.

On my MC400 this is how the switches work. It should be easy to tell on yours because HB will be loudest and have no hiss, split coil will have a little hiss, and reverse is very, very hard to hear.
