When it doesn't fit anywhere else

I just bought myself a used semi-hollow body. It sounds great, but it is much heavier than my strat, is balanced such that gravity pulls the neck down and it hangs differently such that I have to stretch my fretting arm further as compared to the strat.

The bolt for the strap is on the back of the guitar as compared to the strat which has it on the top horn. I know this makes quite a bit of difference.

Any quick fixes? Or just keep playing it until I get used to it.

I can't imagine switching guitars on the fly - the new guitar has a wider neck and I know I would be messing up even more than I usually do. 8)

Dude, happened to me. If you search far back you can read about it on with an Ibanez something or another.

I returned it. I don't think the upper horn has enough mass to hold the weight nor do I think it will solve the problem.

It's neck heavy. It happens and sucks but that's what it sounds like.

Neck-heavy is a hard problem to fix. It's not just the location of the strap button, either, my new Starfire bass has the button there and it balances fine. Weighting the other end might be your best bet, or a strap with more friction.

I also did the same thing. Bought a nice used Ibanez AS-80, from the 90s which was refitting with Gibson PUs and extra heavy hardware (locking tuners, better bridge).which adds to the sustain) It sounds just great! The best electric I have, but it weighs a ton and is most uncomfortable to play long hours ( I stand). I'm not sure if its neck weight or just overall heavy. I did move the strap pin to the neck bottom-minimal help. I've got a comfy strap and everything, but basically am in the market for a lighter semi hollow. I'm not a big guy and it just weighs down on me. Sucks cause she is a great guitar-absolutely beautiful-I get asked about it all the time. For now I'm building back muscles and enjoying the amazing tone, but sooner or later I'll need to replace her with something lighter.
