I have an oppotunity to buy a Fender Quad Reverb this weekend. Its list is 675, but I may be able to get it @ 600. Its basically a silverface twin with 4 12s.
I was thinking about chopping into a head and putting using a 2x12 cab.
What do you guys thinK? Is that a decent price?

Unless you're into lifting that beast or are looking for a project, I would hold out for a Dual Shoman Reverb head, or a Twin Reverb.
fwiw, I found my '70 Dual Showman head for $575 on Craigslist.

I think those are really cool amps. I wouldn't chop it up, maybe build a new head box for it and keep the vintage stuff intact. I could see those being worth money in another 30 years... With a 1/4 sheet of plywood I was able to make a box for my twin, and robbed the hardware off the old amp, I can always put it back on if I wanna sell it as a combo again. If you run it as a head you can build 1x12's and move your stuff a little easier, plus have versatility with your speaker arrangement.

I suppose in 30 yrs anything could happen, but look at the prices of other **over-sized** vintage Fender gear, like Bandmaster 2x12 cabs and Showman 2x15 cabs. I'll bet I'd have a hard time getting $200 for my '68 BM cab.

you're probably right, technology moves toward smaller with more power. I was just thinking you dont see them every day.

So I saw it today. Can get it for 600.
They had a red knob "evil twin" for 500.
I dunno. Both are so very Jerry esque with their sound. Its that Fender sound. They are so freakin loud, though...
