Very cool! I almost went down this road last year then thought differently. I know you want the legit, real deal, gear, but you may want to consider a channel strip or something of the like. It's really a single channel mixer and some, read many, have instrument voicing which I do believe is exactly what the IVP is. So far I've tried using the Presonus Eureka which was very similar to the IVP (although I didn't care for the IVP) and recently heard a bassist using a JoeMeek (
http://www.joemeek.com/sixq3.html#) and it was phenomenal! If I was going down the route I'd likely opt for the JoeMeek.
In my experience the IVP was very prone to noise and sometimes tough to dial in in different rooms. I do believe the para-eq will solve that...
