I have had both Dual Sounds and Super 2's in my MC400. Trust me, the Super 2's sound fine in the Ibanez.

maybee the ceramic capacitors in Waldos tiger wiring diagram add soemthig to the sound, i am not just going to swap the pups, i plan to get the router out, get a brass pup ring and follow those instructions to the T......maybee that will bring in the sound.

That's the way to go if you want to milk as much tone as you can from them, but I would have to agree with Jeff that the slight differences from guitar to guitar can be remedied, even though he didn't actually say that, but I agree with my assumption on what he was thinking 2000 miles away.

Super 2's work wonderfully in the Ibanez mods. Are they bright pickups? absolutely! But that is what gives that signature low E string clarity and 'snap' that Jerry was famous for! You will absolutely get that "snap" with a Super 2 on an MC300 in center pickup single coil mode, don't worry.

That being said, I understand the posters recommendation on Dual sounds. Dual sounds dont favor the top end as much as the Super 2's do and sound great in their own right. All that being said, in my experience they are so close in output, performance and tone that simply a couple notches on the amp tone pot can make a dual sound approximate a super 2 and vice versa. They are not that different

Why would having a tremelo change the spacing? A hardtail strat would still need the wider F-spacing if the geometry in my head is correct, right?

F spaced is either Fender or FloydRose... Other humbuckers are for Gibson spaced bridges.

Look at the early versions of Eddie Van Halens Frankencaster, the bridge pickup is a Gibson PAF and it had to be angled for the pole pieces to match the strings.

That makes sense since Floyd Roses swap so easily onto Strats. Never seen one on a Gibson... thankfully.

I used an F spaced pikup I got off the bay and it works just fine on my Les paul, everything seems to line up properly, but I did make my own pkup plate to fit...

I've wondered that also, but figure it's that Gibsons (generally) don't have tremolo bridges and Fenders do?... Strats anyway....leaving Teles as the glaringly obvious exception.

DiMarzio has a diagram on their web site that shows the dimensions and the pole spacing for the regular and f-spaced pickups. Look at that and then measure the string spacing on your guitar where the pickups would be placed.
