It's time for our annual street festival in my little mountain town - Steppin' Out (or "Steppin' In It" as I like to call it). Main St & College Ave are closed down for 2 days of music, food, & fun. There's two stages, a main stage and an acoustic stage. Since there's a no 2 years in a row rule we're not going to be on the main stage this year. Though I'm not above taking advantage of a loophole and we're going to do an acoustic trio set on the acoustic stage. My bluegrass band Crossties is also performing.

) The Acoustic Kind trio on the acoustic stage on Main St. Featuring me (Tom Snediker, lead guitar vocals), Wendy Godley (rhythm guitar, vocals), and Steve "Slash" Hunt (upright bass). My current favorite project. The space to play with only 3 people is great for improv and the upright bass gives a great percussive sound that the electric can't get - plus Slash is a monster on the ole doghouse bass.
Aug 7, 6:40pm Crossties on the acoustic stage. My bluegrass band. I fell in love with mountain music shortly after moving to the Blue Ridge in 1984. I've been playing in this band for the last 15 years or so. Some great folks to play with - we do a mix of traditional stuff (Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, etc and some "newgrass" and modern stuff like a Gillian Welch tune and a couple of Walter Hiatt tunes - the late, great Uncle Walter is worth checking out). Of course, we squeezed in a couple of Old and in the Way tunes too.
So, come down to the 'burg and join us for some good fun! Some other acts include My Old Ceremony, My Radio, The Lee Boys, and Butch Robbin's Imagicnation (Butch played banjo for Bill Monroe from 77-81). He's a trip!
