I am seriously considering becoming a dealer. I was blown away by this product at NAMM and how useful it can be. You can have your full band rehearsing until 4 AM in your apartment or your mom's basement without disturbing anyone (if you had an electric drum kit). Each person can create their own mix.

There are so many great uses for it. You can jam with a band and keep your volume in your headset down and protect your ears. You dont have to lug amps around and you can have your whole band play in a very small space. And it goes on.

So I am thinking if a few people are interested I can put an order together, get my dealership going and save some RUKINDERS some bucks. Check it out here www.jamhub.com

Let me get some feedback from you guys. I asked the company owner a ton of questions and then jammed with him and recruited a few passerbys to join in. It worked like a charm and solves some real problems.

I saw your last post on this and checked it out a little bit. I love the concept and think it could be really useful for some people. That being said, there is quite a bit of entry level equipment needed--an electric drum kit is nothing to sneeze at (the drummer I play with had a fairly nice one and he hated it, so much so that he got a new acoustic kit. I don't think he'll ever go back) and amp modelers for every guitar. That precludes the guys I play with--essentially non players with virtually no gear (yeah, it kind of sucks being the guy showing up with everything).

On the other hand, I love the idea of being able to tame the volume and control your own mix. Conceptually, it seems like a home run--practically, I don't know.

been eying one for a few months now that that the second kid arrived, and the home studio is off-limits to loud playing. i'd have no problem shelling out the $$ for the jamhub tourbus if my drummer would get an electronic kit. but that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon.

Killer idea, but the drum issue is it's downfall. They've quieted all but the loudest instrument, thus defeating the point. Asking the consumer to buy a whole new drum rig on top of the investment for the hub is a little much. If I had a stack of money and the ultimatum of go silent or stop playing I would be all over this.

I dont think you have to have an amp modeler but it would be good. I know a pod express is about $80 and there are many that are cheaper and you can find cheap stuff on ebay too. But another expense would be a nice set of headphones. I dont think ear buds would cut it.

And everyone needs a microphone too. Even if they dont sing you cant talk to each other without it.

I am sure a used electric drum kit can be picked up relatively cheap too.

My drummer just got rid of his and now regrets it. I think he is going to get another.

I notified that I should come by and try and help with this conversation.

We get the "What about acoustic drums?" question a lot. You can use a JamHub with acoustic drums with terrific results. Simply mic the kit and if you leave the other "loud" gear home, you can jam without mic feedback, with studio-like acoustic quality, with out ever dealing with volume wars. Here's a video showing how we've done it before:

I think the acoustic drum question was basically referring to that fact that you will still make a lot of noise and cant play in an apartment type situation at anytime.

Can you talk a little about whether you need an amp modeler or not, please? I know I was plugged in to a pod x3 live.

Seems like a neat idea and you can even improve it from here, that's job security! If you solve the drum issue, you're golden, maybe some kind of mats that can be set on the acoustic set so the drummer can use his kit with rubber pads put over everything to sense the hits and eliminate the sound. If you do that, you can send me my royalty $$ for it is my patented idea... make a modeler for the cymbals and toms and you have an electric set when you want...

I'll get with the boys and see what they think of it...

Yes, it was a blast jamming. Making music as part of your work is a hoot. I love it.

I feel that you "need" an amp modeler of some kind because electric guitar tone is not just the guitar, it's the guitar + the amp + the speaker. What the amp modelers do is make that familiar sound of the amp and the speaker so that what we hear in our headphones is what we expect from electric guitar.

If you go direct into the JamHub with a guitar, it will sound like when you plug an electric guitar straight into a mixing desk. No delay, no speaker contribution, no preamp tone, just a flat clean sound.

Amp modelers are wonderful and they come in analog and digital versions and analog + digital versions. There are soooooooo many options. Most new guitar amps come with some kind of "direct recording" out or headphone jack as well. We simply say to customers, "Do you own anything that allows you to play using headphones?" Often they say, "yes, of course," we say, "okay, use that for your guitar tone."

If you want all analog, there's a great line of gear from Tech21 called the "character series" that we've used with good results. Analog + digital has the Korg line of modelers and the gear from Damage Control (check out the Deamonizer or Womanizer ... bad names, great products). All digital products like the Line 6 gear and Roland gear give you amazing versatility for not much money. And the Line 6 and Digitech gear allow you (in some models) to run two amps at once. Once you try two different amps at once, it's hard to go back to one amp at a time.
