I think what's so great about those shows is that there are very few flaws. It is rare that they would go a whole show without flubbing one lyric or having a voice crack, or something. But these shows everybody is on their mark. Also, the sound is very thick and full which adds to their reverence. The only thing that takes these shows down a peg is that the setlists are less adventurous than other years.

It's like your team going on a one month winning streak.

I wouldn't necessarily agree with that. I seem to remember, 5-5-77? There's a Bertha that starts the show and they all fuck up the lyrics at the same time/point. So much so that Jerry, I think, goes "Wheeeew!" and they all laugh and keep on going.

Lyrical fuckups are de rigeur with the Dead. If they weren't there I would be convinced that somehow aliens were beaming the lyrics directly to their heads. :)
