Yesterday i got my Warmoth Jerry caster. The guitar has some cool provenance in that the guy i bought it from provided Warmoth with the drawings for the WGD model for this custom job. Apparently Warmoth liked it so much they asked to keep the drawings and they still use the body shape for their production today.

The guitar has 3 super II's, the cutler buffer, and push / pull pots for the coil taps.

My question is i ran it through both my 68 princeton reverb (modded w a 12') and 67 Deluxe Reverb and the middle pu in humbucker mode is really hot. it gets some hair on it with the amps at 3. i have yet to try it with the 68 twin (w e120's). THE sound is not quite there. has anyone experienced hot super II's and what did you do to fix it.

Yes.., I dont know if Dan is a member of this board, but he was very cool and his guitar was exactly as described. Plays like butter. A really nice guitar from a pretty cool guy. Next time you see him, give him all my gratitude!

did you try playing it with the middle split? that really tames the beast

I just got finished with my Jerrypaul and practiced last night on my rig at the practice space. I had no way to set up the amp and preamp + pedals for this new High output guitar prior so things were out of whack. It would push everything into breakup and clipping, so I had to take 30 min and set up the equipment to handle the higher output from the guitar. Splitting the coil really helps it bring the power down, but you are going to have to play with your amp to get it sounding sweet sounding. At loud volumes I was having feedback, clipping and break up I didn't want for the first few songs as I adjusted the volume on the guitar during solo's. I foresee me having to get intimate with my rig tonight to get ready for the weekend, or just play my srat, which seems like the easiest thing to do for right now. For the most part, a super two in the middle sounds Jerryiest.
you can lower the pickup, lowering it helps get the signal a little weaker too. Those pickups are considered HIGH OUTPUT on the DiaMarzzio site. look to your volume/tone knob on the guitar and keep fiddling with the amp and it will dial in....That is one reason I didn't want to use the Super II anywhere but the middle. They are just too bright and high gain/volume to put in every slot, but that's what Jerry liked....Do you have a EQ pedal or similar? that can help if the amp won't tame itself.

I know this is not what Jerry did but it works for me. Below is my Jerrycaster. The middle PUP is a Lindy Fralin Steel Pole 43 single coil. It's wrapped hot at 9.0K ohms. At that spec, while I wouldn't call it P90-ish per se, it's getting close. My "secret weapon" is the tap at 6.0K ohms (Lindy will do this for you but you have to ask for it, it's not on his web page) which I've attached to the middle of the 3 minitoggles. That allows me to toggle between hot single coil and legit Strat-ish middle PUP single coil for a versatile variety of sounds. On my guitar, the middle position on the 5-way blade switch is the neck and bridge 'buckers (Fralin Unbuckers at 9.5 and 7.0K ohms - they sound wonderful split, too) in parallel, just like a LP. To access the middle PUP alone, I pull up on the master tone control which is a push-pull tone pot. YMMV but this works well for me playing Dead.

Hey Fix,I'm glad you are enjoying it! Those pickups are pretty hot in Humbucking mode .Pull the Middle pot out and you should be able to nail the Tone you're looking for .I rarely played it without splitting the coils .

THE tone of the Super II that you're after is the split single coil half and NOT the full series humbucker mode.
