Steve Liesman -- you may know him if you watch CNBC -- sat in with my band on rhythm guitar Saturday night. He played a late 70s anniversary Strat into a Pod X3 Live direct to the board. It was interesting to have both guitars going direct, the sound was way cleaner. He used a QSC K12 like I do with my AxeFX, and he was much more audible on stage than when we typically mike Jimbo's Vox amp.

Also tried something new with the bass when I remixed, got a nice fat bottom and articulate tone, I think.

As always...sounds real nice...would love to hear the whole show. I like what the guy is doing on rhythm...don't get me wrong...I like Jimbo's work a lot...but this guy sounds good. Is there no limit to the talent from which you guys can pull???? I'm envious.

There was video shot, but the place was packed and the camera was in the back. Haven't seen that yet.

He can't be that smart, he bought a Pod!

I'm trying to fatten up his guitar sound a little at his request. It's a bit thin, needs more mids. That is probably the most common mistake trying to go direct the first time out, you get it sounding all crispy by yourself and discover it disappears in the mix. I did the same thing with my tone at first.

Couple more:

Here's a very short Deal to close the first set ... our set times were shorter than usual because Graham Parker did a show before ours and we got started late.

And a Mississippi Half Step to open set two:

I'm very happy with the mix from this show.

And, as it happens, a friend shot a few videos from the first set before it got too crowded. Steve's Strat is an anniversary model from the late 70s, I don't know what that white burst finish is called, but it's very striking.

Like a Road (first solo was lame but second one was better; I need to practice  )

You crack me up! If that first solo is lame then I might as well hang it up. I guess that's how you get that good...forever in search of the "just exactly perfect"...and you're right the second one was better. Nice job.
