No Patriots fans in here? Hmmmph...
I can't wait for football season to start; it's part of our lives up here. We schedule (as many of you probably do) what our weekend will be like AROUND the games.
"What?!! You're getting married on Sunday?!?! Don't you know the Pats are playing the Bills! Are you crazy! I'll let you know the score..."
I'm also psyched for Madden '07 to come out. I'm hopelessly addicted to that game...

Yeah, I'm ready for some football. Even though being a Yankees fan I'm neck deep in baseball right now.
Football and baseball are like apples and oranges.
When I think football I think of those smash 'em up derby's. The last remaining team that's still moving and not all racked up on the edge of the track is the winner.
Baseball is a bit like tennis. More emphasis on the individual and the cream most always rises to the top, with some notable exceptions. Not nearly the game of attrition football often is.
From baseball to football is a very easy and likable segue.
On the other hand I have a rough time going from hockey to baseball.
Anyway, J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets.
A lot of changes this year. Could be anywhere from horrendous to decent. We'll see...

ahhhhhh, the ravens? bunch of criminals. you have jamal lewis setting up coke deals and ray lewis (at least his entourage) killing a guy for talking shit in a club. on a lighter note, the season after bam morris left the steelers for the ravens he got busted w/60lbs of pot in his trunk. on that one i cant wrong the guy, some folks like sleeping on the stuff. GO STEELERS!!
Now, Steve, the truth is that the other group attacked Ray Lewis' friends first, and it was, by ALL accounts ( including the sworn testimony of the victim's entourage ) self defense. One of the "killers" had 5 guys on him, and the other "killer" was fighting off three. And Jamal was only guilty of letting someone use his cell phone, and was even told by the judge sitting in the case, had he not plead guilty, there was no way he would have done time. In the interest of being a good sport, I won't bring up your current number 1 draft pick this year.
But yes, if the Raven's O-line can keep McNair in one piece ( which is a big if, admittedly ), then the rest of the AFC North better be nervous. Plus, I think that their defense is ready to go back to being super scary like it was in 2000. But, that's why they play the games, I guess. We'll just have to see.
BTW, as an intersting trivia note, the very first active NFL player to ever be charged with murder was an offensive lineman that played for, you guessed it, the Stillers, back in the 1950's.

Wisedyes, you say that if he had not plead guilty that he wouldnt have done time..so why the plea? As for Santonio, if he doesn't get his act together he's gone. Although the first charge of dancing in the streets was rather ridiculous. I have faith in the Rooney's, and I'm sure Santonio will go if he isn't acting in the best interest of the team. I'll tell you what, man, I'm really looking forward to Ravens-Stillers this year. If Porter plays like he did in the post-season, McNair better watch out! AFC North is looking pretty strong this year, well 3/4 of it anyway, the browns are the same old browns.

You've got a beautiful park down there by the inner harbor. My yanks are 3 and 0 when I've been in attendance and there seem to be a whole bunch of us down there. They average a whole bunch more in their attendance when the yanks are in town. Maybe you should start a campaign to get O's fans fanny's in the seats which will in turn get management a few more bucks to spend?

I don't particularly agree with the way baseball does business but as long as the rules are what they are, I'm fine with my team doing what it takes and I'll keep riding the wave.

Billbill, I know exactly what you are saying about the Yankees fans taking over Camden Yards. The Red Sox faithful do as well, and it is downright embarrassing. The truth is that the O's management has badly run the team over the past decade. Things are starting to turn around, but they needed to do more back when they were getting 48,000 O's fans a night in there every game.
I do think that teams like the Yanks and the BoSox, Mets, etc, do have an unfair advantage over teams like the O's, or the Tigers, say. However, the Tigers are doing well, Oakland is in it every year, the White Sox won it all last year, so it seems to me that if you don't have the Yankees money, then you need to be smarter as an organization that the Yankees. The Orioles have repeatedly failed to be. And believe me, this pains me more than the Yankees buying their way into the playoffs every year. But I still have to flip Yanks fans some shit, ya know?

However, all Jamal did was let an undercover narc informant use his cell phone to set up a deal with a friend of his; he was not personally involved. And it was blatant entrapment. However, due to the blessed wisdom of our nation's drug laws, it is a 10 year term for the use of a cell phone in a drug felony case. Lewis was advised by his legal defense that if he plead guilty, he would receive a much reduced sentence, as opposed to the crap shoot that is the lot of a young black guy in federal court.The Ravens also guaranteed to stand by him upon his release, so he copped a plea bargain for four months.
However, after he plead guilty and cut his deal, he was told by the sitting judge in the case that, had it gone to trial, the feds had no case against him and she would have dismissed it. But, you cannot recant a plea bargain, so he had to do the four months. As it turned out, a bad call on his part, but understandable.
The sad fact is that lots of guys in the NFL, the NBA, MLB, etc, aren't saints. They are young guys with waaaaa-aaay too much money, from too often a background of untouchability due to their athletic abilities, and all too often they surround themselves with the absolute wrong kind of people. They're just lucky that they can usually buy their ways out of trouble up to a point.

It's good to have money to spend, but you have to spend it wisely (See Mo Vaughn, Roberto Alomar, Roger Cedeno.......I could go on for hours).
