I found an old sears tube amp in a friends attic, what should I do to it before I plug it in.
I was just gonna vacuum it up a bit(speakers-tubes), and then just plug it in.

Is that a dumb idea?
Is is 2 -12'' speakers, can't wait to check it out!

If I were you, I would take some precautions, especially if it's been sitting for a long time. Keep it away from anything flammable and have a fire extinguisher handy just in case. Better yet, if you can plug it up outside you might be better off in case of something unexpected.

Check the caps to see if they are bloated. If not, I'd try it w/o a guitar, with an extension cord, outside, etc.

If that works and it hums, maybe plug a cd player into it and see if it has volume. would wait and test some things before plugging a guitar into it.

What year is it from? I second the try it out in the driveway thing first, burnt plastic smell tends to linger, so does melted carpet.
You never know until you try and safety first, but I have never heard of Hiroshima explosion that could endanger your life. Although, big electrolytic caps sound like firecrackers going off sometimes.
