Yeah, all the cops in the world will do you no good if your timing stinks. I have seen so many guys who have great melodic ideas but drop the groove half way through a run. That too is a buzz kill.

That guy would be me at the moment and it's toally killing my buzz!

Fear not, even serious pros drop grooves, not to worry considering you are addressing the issue and that is what matters. As long as you are always trying to get better, you will, and faster than you realize. When I was learning guitar I spent a lot of time just working on my fingers with a click track. It was tedious as all hell, my teachers all insisted I work it slowly at first as it is more challenging than you may think to keep great time on something that is really slow. Takes you out of your comfort zone which is important. The more you do that, the better you will get.

I do think the better something sounds, for example a Reason based loop vs. an old Zoom unit (though I loved mine) the more interested you will be to play on it, especially after one of these.
