Hello, well I need an outboard reverb for my Garcia rack. I recently bought a GT Trio and cant seem to track down a BK Butler rt reverb. Ive seen the Demeter real reverb but I think 500 is too much for that unit. I'm thinking of going to a pedal for now. So here we go....

there are many spring reverb pedals that claim to be the best and Im sure they are. I need to find the one that best emulates the Garcia tone. Lets hear your thoughts please thanks alot JD

Mr. Springy will definitely not get you there, it's a very low-grade, low-fi design. Check out the new RV-7 by Lexicon/Digitech. The T-Rex RoomMate has an analog dry path, uses a tube, and gets amazing reviews. The Vanamps is ok I hear, but not as long and lush as you may want. If you're going with a rack unit, there are plenty of units by Lexicon and TC that will sound killer, and I'm sure if Jerry had lived long enough, he likely may have gravitated in that direction. Digital today sounds far better than back in the day. If you gotta have springs, there are also plenty of vintage spring units that will sound pretty cool; Orban, Furman, Butler (Tube Works), Sound Workshop, and more. And don't be deceived into thinking the Tube Works reverb unit is all tube. It's mostly solid state with a couple of "starved voltage" tube stages to help warm it up a bit. They're pretty good, but there are others worthy of consideration.

I would like to stay in the rack units if I could, you see Im finding alot of the units are multi like the TC and Lexicons I would love if there were a lexicon that was deadicated reverb and didnt cost so much ie the PCM series Ive heard mixed reviews of the MX series. So yes a rack reverb would be the best Ive had Furmans and think that I might have to try and find an RV-1 again. but all suggestions are appreciated thanks again!

If you can find a Valverb at a good price, snap it up, it sounds very nice with the Trio in this application. It's a close second to the Real Tube Reverb when I A/B'd them before I let the Valverb go. The tremolo is a bit weird on it, or at least the speed range is, but that's nice to have as well with a Trio.

The nice thing about the Real Tube Reverb is the second pan inside, which lets you send the reverb from the first pan into the second pan, which gives you a nice, longer reverb. To my knowledge, Garcia never did it, but it sounded nice.

The Holy Grail Plus is an economic way to go, people seems to like how it sounds. Dozin bought one recently and liked it. I had an original Holy Grail, which I kept as a backup for a while, it sounded good, but it was hissy. Hopefully, the Plus is a little bit better. FWIW, when Ryan Adams and the Cardinals played, the stage was littered with Holy Grails, and the pedal steel and electric guitars sound very nice on their soundboards.

The RT-921's are going for pretty high bucks these days. A couple have showed up on ebay and been snapped up immediately for "buy it now" prices around $500, but I've heard of ones being bid up into the 800s.

Delay was on (with the OD-2r) during the solo, though, but you can kind of get a sense of it. It's a nice reverb.

You might check out an older model Lexicon reverb, the Lexicon LXP-1.
Audio Upgrades upgrades/mods them to PCM-like spec.

I started using one on reccomendation from the Stereo Steel Amp builder, but also later found that it is Steve Kimmocks 'verb of choice.
It is a stereo unit and I use it with an Alembic F2B.

BTW, I have owned both LXP-1 & LXP-5 - they both were upgraded by Audio Upgrades
per recommendation by Steve Kimock via his website. I compared the modded units
to a simple, low-cost prototype unit I obtained. The LXP-1 & -5 both suffered from
lack of clarity compared to the prototype. C'est le vie.

Ultimately, it is your ear that determines a reverb's usability along with some sensibility
on how to deploy the reverb. If you can, try a unit out - best of all in your rig before plunking down
money.

I did end up with a Real Tube, but I also am bidding on a Furman RV1 (i have always liked this) and I did pick up an EH Holy grail+. Yes I do need them all, I use them on different applications. I would still like to try a Valverb. Never enough reverb for me!

I have a BK Butler amp and the reverb is super nice. Better than my twin, less muddy more crisp, IMO. I am using the effects loop though bypassing the damn tank B/C I am using a preamp twin that has its own reverb problems. Is there a way to put the reverb signal after the effects loop on the amp to mix with the effects loop? Is this something that can be done? Otherwise I see the above mentioned products, I just hate that I have to buy MORE REVERB when I have extra tanks and the best system in front of me unuseable in my amp at this point.

LOVE the Furman RV-1. Had one many years ago and it's still the best Reverb I've ever heard. The Parametric in the unit was the ticket for me. I notched out any wierdness leaving a wonderfully airy, 3D reverb. I've been chasing it ever since!

I also have a Holy Grail which I like, but I use a Boss RV-3 these days. Reverb with a dash of delay.

Jonny that RT reverb has several ways to run. Mine is going through the Trio Loop before the GCX, but alot of folks like it at the end. I think you can put it just about anywhere but it does act differently post effects and such.

I tried the Grail and I am big on EHX, but I want a little more options than it offers, the New Boss RV-5 was nice, and I usually don't like digital and limit my Boss uses, plus I haven't used it on my rig or loud either. I have tried pedals in the past at the store, then in the chain at home or at loud volumes the quality changes drastically. I still wish there was a mod to get reverb to jump into an effects loop on an amp. I don't want to start new topic AGAIN about reverb, has anyone heard of doing this or is it possible? Thanks for your 2 cents! The RV-3 and 5 boss reverbs are products Roland spent time on producing modeled after their high end roland stuff.

I don't have an RT unit, I have a RT-2100 120 watt combo amp set in a rack to power my cabs. Sorry for the unclear post. It was BK's version of a twin with his RT reverb built in, as a one knob mix. I love it. It only works if you enter the amp through the regular inputs on the front not the effects loop. I have tried using the twin through the front, but the tone suffers, plus the noise is amplified 10x. If I could only tap the line going into the reverb tube. it is a PCB not P2P board. I may be stuck here...
