This SHN set is a compilation of previous SHNs seeded by Seth Kaplan and Noah Weiner. The bulk of the show is provided by a slightly degraded SBD (source 1). Dark Star through Morning Dew is from a crisp SBD remastered by David Gans (source 2). A very good mono audience recording (source 3) provides the following patches:
--the first 5 tracks of disc 1 that are missing from the SBD
--the first ~10 seconds of Stella Blue
--the first ~5 seconds of Half Step
--dropout @ 8:44 to 8:47 of GDTRFB
--~30 seconds at the end of GDTRFB and very beginning of OMSN

Notes:
--the first few notes of GDTRFB are clipped (they are also clipped on the audience recording)
--OMSN is rather degraded and may be from an alternate, higher generation SBD source
--Sound Forge was used for minor pitch corrections and other minor edits

For those who aren't familiar with a tape trading vine:

II. TAPE VINES

Another alternative explored by smaller groups of people and more
established traders is the tape vine. In a vine, one or more "seed" tapes
are made and circulated in sequence. For instance, if Tom, Dick, and Harry
signed up for a tape vine, the administrator would mail a seed tape to Tom
who would copy it for himself within three days and ship it on to Dick. Dick
would receive the seed, copy it, and send it to Harry. Because Harry is the
last person on the vine, he would have provided the original blank tape to
the administrator.
The advantages to this are obvious: everyone gets a second generation
copy which they get to make on their own equipment. Each person pays for
postage once, including the last person who mailed the original blank to the
admin. The major disadvantage is that you have to trust that nobody in the
group is going to get the seed tape and then boogie, leaving the rest of the
vine to collapse. It has been suggested that the original cassette for the
seed is a high-quality, rugged, metal tape and that a checklist & labels with
everyone's name in sequence be included in the package. Several vines of the
same recording have been run at the same time and called a TAPE BUSH. It also
helps to change the envelope after every 3-4 mailings, but your mileage may
vary.

if someone could help me along, (im extremely new to all of this) i'd do it. also i have a lot of good quality dead tapes of great shows that i couldnt find on archive or etree that i'd love to donate if i could find out how to tranfer them to my computer. my friend told me i could use an old tape deck and plug the cable into my computer somehow and just play it, but im not sure of this.

Kinda fascinating to see people talking about trading or vining cassettes, instead of CDR's! In fact, I don't think I've ever seen tape trading on the internet in about the 7-8 years I've been using it.

Nope, I'm talking about trading/vining CDs. Cassettes? What are they? ;)

Any other takers? All you have to do is be willing to copy some CDs that are sent to you and then send the CDs on to the next person. Simple enough, even for heads. ;)

oh! I was thrown off by the big paragraph you posted about tape vining and the contained discussion of "generations" and cassette types, which at this point usually are a concern only to the Noah Weiners and Seth Kaplans of the world, who actually make the A>D transfer for all of us rabid CD listeners.

You're in Idaho? I hope to make it part of a mini-tour to Montana for the band sometime, maybe even next Spring. Well the weather here could not improved upon. We sent NY our 100+F and are enjoying a killer run of 80/65.

I still love and enjoy my tapes by the way... as long as I keep driving that 91 Caravan with the tape deck, I'll keep rockin'em.
