Sorry in advance if this has been covered, but I saw a photo of Jerry's rig on Dozin where he has both a Blackface and Silverface Twin. His amp seems plugged into the SF. Was the BF a backup, or did he go direct into the SF and then go through the BF as well before hitting the Mac power amp?

Used one at a time, out to the Mac. Most often the SF is the one he was plugged into, but there are lots of pics where he is going into the BF.

All amps sound a little different. I wonder how different those sounded. There must have been a reason Jerry favored the Silverface one.

I think the Blackface and the '68 Silverface both were both Healy-faced. No power tubes, just used as preamps with all the magic tweaks. Always a backup Twin preamp and a backup half of the Mc2300 ready for action in case of emergency.

When was the time he used some of Furman's Preamps, around 79-80? earlier? would he use both the furman then the twin or just the furman? There is a picture of him on Dozin under Furman Sound with a furman setup going into his mac. That must have been temporary through the Mesa's? they look young too. They also posed for an add (cerca 1980) with furman preamps and such claiming they used them. Maybe Bobby used them?

Exactly...

Regarding Jerry's preamp history.... it was a Twin pre for a long time, then briefly a Boogie (which is similar to a Twin) around '76, then a Twin again for a long time, and then a GT Trio (which is similar to a Twin) for his last 2 years. So of those 28 years or so, for about 25 of them he used a real Fender Twin as his preamp. The other years he used Fender-like tube preamps.
