the bomb idea is great, but i would do it straight vertical. i'm stuck on symmetry for headstocks.
a mushroom cloud might make a cool inlay too.

I'm kind of amused to see you actually might do a bomb....FWIW, I guess I was envisioning one of those round, ticking/fuse-burning cartoon-type bombs set to explode.
As for how to do a "brown note", maybe you could do an eighth note that is brown?? no idea beyond that other than the obvious disgusting possibilities. I'll be interested to know what you decide to do.

Oh, man, that's a cool idea! I think it'd be far too hard to do as a 1" inlay but that'd be sweet in the Wolf position of a nice Wolf guitar copy. Hint, hint, Mike, wherever you are. 
I'm not really serious about a bomb for this inlay, MT, but I'll definitely put one on the side of the 15" speaker cab that I plan to build. That'd be awesome! And maybe I'll add a fuse to the speaker, too, so the whole thing looks like one of those cartoony bombs that you mentioned. Imagine this except with a 15" speaker melting your face instead of the round bomb part.

It does look good. Gives me ideas about my RD. Maybe setting inlays into the body. I was going to suggest Bobby's duck for your headstock, but your taste is superior!

I'm going to play the hell out of it, on all the Pigpen-era stuff, roughly through E72-era stuff, as convenient. I borrowed a friend's Dark-Star-equipped Guild Starfire for a show, and it sounded ballsy and huge, and I could really fly on that short-scale, four-string neck.

I'm dying to, but not quite enough to justify the expense and extra risk of shipping it to Mass and then back to MN.
