$360 for a 4000 watt generator, seems like a deal to me. Runs a 4 gallon tank, 12 hour run time at 50% usage. Just trying to make sure this is enough to run a band with. Say a couple 50 watt guitar amps, 100 watts on a bass cab, and a PA system that i still need to purchase. does 4000 watts give me enough room? What do ya'll think of this generator?

If anything, I'd just like to hear from anybody who has run a band off a gas-powered generator... advice, horror stories, reccomendations?

4000 watts is the peak, you would want to look at the continuous running wattage, it should handle the load but I'd look into the addition of an AC line regulator to tap your amps and electronics into because generators tend to flux. I'm sure others on this board way more knowlegeable in electrical/electronics systems can chime in...

My VERY limited experience with this was at a friend's BBQ years back (mid 90s) and the band had a generator.

That thing was LOUD! and smelled!

If you are gonna go down that route I'd suggest figuring out if you could do maybe a 50 foot run from it safely so you can get it out of the way.

I'd figure double what you need for wattage and half what they give for specs, you should come in alright. I've played with generators before, and though I can't tell the specs, they did fine, also running lights for the band and for the venue. So don't forget that, if it applies. That said, I think you'll be fine. Do get it as far away as you can. 50 feet isn't very far unless you're playing doom death mega loud no dynamic music. I'd personally rather listen to the generator!
