Last night i was fiddling away and a melody came to me, mind you i suck at guitar after 16years of playing just to set the playing field, and this riff was familiar and difficult for me but i knew where it was going and figured the whole thing out, the feeling was awsoem and something i haven't felt in a long time, i have figured out chorded songs on purpose before but never a straight up lick like this and it took about twenty mintues of trial and error to figure it out, i played it for my wife to make sure i wasn't loosing it, after that i realized it was one of Jerry's licks from China Cat Sunflower, now that day my brother sent me a link to his version of the best China Cat and subconcioulsy i must have taken notes, anyway I know there are players out there that know what i mean and I just wanted to share, I was and still am so stoked, I didn't use tabs i didn't use a video lession, the melody was in my head and i wringed it out of my less than talented fingers, but it happend, thanks for listening... and just to make this an equipment discussion I was using an 85 stock Les Paul Custom Black Beauty plugged into Jack Sh*t with a head full of Sensamelia,

nice - getting riffs from your head to the fretboard (whether yours or some unconscious jerry riff) is a big deal. For my money it shows a relationship forming between your head and your fretboard/scale/interval knowledge. May the process snowball. You've been playing 16 years - me about 27, and I'm only in the last 3 or 4 years getting 'on top of' my own melodic sensibilities. It's never too late.

Congrads...If you figured that riff out, you can figure any out...
everyone starts and progress's differently, don't put your playing down.
Pick that axe up and start on another riff...now !
