My new Epiphone Sheraton II is sounding pretty sweet but doesn't have quite the sound a rhythm guitar player needs, IMO. I just can't get that clacky percussive sound that strats or single-coiled guitars have (think Bobby strumming chunky chords up the neck, it has almost a metallic click sound that I can't get with the humbuckers) so I was thinking of replacing either the bridge pickup or both with some lighter humbuckers or paired-single coils. The reason why I might want to keep the neck a stock humbucker is because we play a good amount of jazz and the "soft-around-the-edges" sound that it brings is quite nice. So, what's a good pickup to bring the sound I'm looking for? I was thinking about going with the Seymour Duncan SH-1 '59 Model and putting it at the bridge so when I want to strum some clacky, Ibanez-era Weir sounding chords I can. Any thoughts? Different pickups? What are your experiences?
