The video "artifacts" on the "View From The Vault" series were the live feeds to the Diamond Vision screen as it was happening. It was kinda cool live as you still had the band to look at too in real time if you wish. On video playback as the only option...eh...not so cool, but I doubt they were thinking that this was a future video release at the time. We should be thrilled that the footage exists at all! All IMHO of course.
I wish we'd get some more '87 (love that filler stuff on VFTV3 from shoreline 10-3-87, would love to see more of that show-set 2), or a Alpine '89 Box set of DVD's. For various reasons '89 seems to be the ideal year to mine for these releases.

I'm thinking; "I've got video footage of the Dead from 1972...COOL, for others it's very cumbersome.The clip-art animation in SSDD(notably in the middle of Dark Star) is there to fill in parts where the film footage is missing. That bothered me for years too, wanting to see more of what was going on onstage! Until I learned from some Prankster connections, here in Oregon, that the footage simply doesn't exist.
