1987 Fender-Japan "1972 Re-Issue" Stratocaster + (usually) D'Addario (or EB, or GHS or John Pearse or generic store-brand) 10-46's. I do probably 2-3 more winds at the post than seem to be recommended. Give a few good perpendicular tugs at the 12th fret and it's all settled in in just a couple of minutes. Careful not to break the high E!

Hmmm... On my git, I have locking tuners and the strings still seem to need a good 8 hours to settle nicely and a few tugs up and down.

I play on Elixir 11s. Polyweb? Nanoweb? It's got the shit on it.

I did just buy 3 packs of these new D'addario EXP strings. 12s. Twas a Merlefest special and I haven't put them on yet. Cheaper than the Elixirs, but we'll see how they sound.

FWIW--I gave a set of these d'addario EXP strings to a buddy of mine and I restrung both my guitars with the other two sets. After playing for 3-4 weeks on them? Squeaky as shit. Even my wife said something like, wow what's with the squeaky strings. I emailed my friend and he says no problem, they sound good. We get together and we start playing and I'm like, don't you hear that squeak? He's like, oh yeah, now that you mention it, they are kinda squeaky.

Back to the Elixirs. YMMV.

I never heard that. That sounds highly suspect. This "somebody" isn't a Chewlie's Gum salesman? Or in this case, a Chewlie's String salesman?

I use the John Pearse brand on my acoustics - don't play electric, so I can't comment on electric strings. On my Guild JF-55 I use Pearse strings with gauges 12-52 and on my Guild 512 12 string I use the Pearse lights (10-47).

The Gibson Masterbuilt strings are also quite nice - I tend to stay away from Elixir - they just sound too bright and tinny to me. I also like to change string quite a bit, so strings as expensive as Elixirs are not cost effective. The John Pearse strings on my Guilds have quite a punch while they bring out the wonderful full tones of the Rosewood on both my 6 and 12 strings. For the person looking for heavier gauge strings, Pearse makes a set that Leo Kottke uses on his guitars - I can't recall the gauges, but they are called the C# strings - the strings are so heavy, you have to tune down to C# lest you pull the bridge and saddle right off the face of your guitar.

I use ernie ball extra slinky .8s on my strat, d'addario .9s on my schecter 7 string and blue steel .9s on my ovation acoustic/elec. I love the ernie balls and the d addarios but anyone know of a good acoustic string? i really dont like my blue steels all that much...and im too poor to expirement.

I am using D'Addario 11-49s.
It is on Carvin neck thru with locking tuners and a fixed bridge. It takes about a day for them to get worked in, depending on the weather. But they stay in tune pretty well. it came with Elixers on it new, They lasted a long time, but they were a bit to jangely.
my Acoustic has Martin's 12s on it, I like them. Bunches.

I am thinking of putting a set of Gibsons with the (third)G wound string?
I dunno, I bought them just do not have the guts too use it.?

I like the D'Addarios too. Depending on the guitar it's usually the 11-49 with a wound G. I find the wound G give me a little more of a midrange ballsy sound. My Tele is using the 10-46 also with a wound G.

That is why I never went back the the Elxirs.
Prolly give the wound G a try on the next string change.

some guitars dont stay in tune as well as others. And other people are just plain freaks about tunning. Dont let it bother you.
