Someone I know is selling a Twin. It has (2) JBL K120's with metal domes (8 ohm). One on the domes is slightly dented. He says it's the voice coil, but I think he used the wrong term as he included a picture showing the dent (looks minor). Yes - there is no grill cover. Looks like a silverface to me. If someone can post pics for me, I'll send them to you. Thoughts??

Seller's description:

Cosmetically not the best shape.... the grill cover is missing, but everything is in good working order.

New Fender 6L6 tubes...the JBLs are the real deal, one of alum. voice coils is slightly dented but does not affect the sound...

I also asked him to get the serial # so we can look up the year

My friend is asking $750.

tnx,
mk

Figure the speakers, even with a little dent, easily worth $250 for the pair, and more likely over $300. That leaves $450-ish for the amp itself. I'd say jump on it. Cosmetics don't bother me. It's what's inside that amp that counts. I'd say it's a good deal for sure. Just be ready for a full tune-up, some re-capping, etc. But that's what we do to old Twins to get them up to snuff.

Is it a master volume Twin or from before that?

If you can't pull the dent out of the dustcap with duct tape or a piece of dry ice, you can get it replaced for about $10. Sounds like a nice amp.

Metal will contract in the cold, so if it's a clean dimple, putting a small piece of dry ice on it can pop it right back out.

Be careful, though, as dry ice is extremely cold and will burn you if you don't protect your hands.

Dry ice is also supposed to make your pot better, place a chunk of dry ice in a metal tin with some pot and leave it overnight in the refridgerator....from an old hippie wive's tale... :D

That makes it 1972 or later. If it has a Line Out that makes it later 70's.

And they'd likely be made with the ultralinear OT. Many folks don't like these at all.
And they really wreak havoc on the poweramp tubes.
