"This isn't Jerry Garcia's marijuana," said state Rep. Jeff Roorda, a Democrat from the eastern Missouri town of Barnhart. "They've used chemicals to avoid creating something that's already illegal."
I don't know if I should be pissed that, of all people, Mr. Roorda choose Jerry to link to pot -or- proud that the specific context of the linkage is to natural, organic weed (as opposed to the troublesome new substitute). :D

I hate when people mis-use the word "ignorant"...but that is an ignorant thing to say by him. I consider Garcia an artist as much as I would consider any artist who's work I see in the Philadelphia Art Museum (terrific museum btw), who alot of times had histories of addiction and self destruction. The last thing I wanna do is start a political thing on a Dead board, but I would say I do feel a bit offended

But don't take my word for it....

I think the point he was trying to make was that Jerry's generation of potheads still thinks weed is as weak as was in the 60/70's .... not this new fake weed shit ....
Him picking Jerry to represent that generation is easy to understand : everyone ( in the generic sense ) knows the G.D. = drugs ....
It is what it is .....
Just legalize the real *WEED*
I am a citizen
I pay my taxes
Give me the WEED

Speaking as a "Milton Friedman Libertarian" government has no business interfering with what anyone chooses to injest. Government is far too intrusive in our personal lives. If you want to destroy your life with drugs you should have that freedom. Pot and growing pot for your personal (and whomever you choose to pass it to) consumption should be legalized. It is a potentially great source of tax revenue like tobacco and alcohol tax. Stupidity is what should be punished: driving while high, providing marijuana to minors, etc. I cringe when I see idiot adults light up around kids with no afterthought. No doubt pot kills brain cells, impairs your senses, dulls your reaction time and does not mix well in a work environment, but if someone wants to enjoy a doobie at their leisure or in the privacy of their own home, God bless them. I will jump off my political soapbox now....

The pot today is killer one hit wonder stuff compared to the stuff in the 70's and 80's. Personally I like homegrown from the garden...pick out the skinny and stringy males in the summer and let the bushy females produce all the kind bud oozing with sticky resin in the fall. Without the male pollen to go to seed the females go nuts trying to attract the pollen. Mmmm, Mmmmm Mmmmm.

"I think I'll drift on where it's at, where the weed grows green and fat...."

A true libertarian would think that the government has no business making it illegal.

Potato potaHto to most but most of us libertarians believe the government has a strict scope of defining what can't be done vs what can be done.

A "true libertarian" rejects the idea of taxation wholesale. A "true libertarian" also knows government should exist not to punish "stupidity", but to punish those who truly initiate violence against others (also to protect property rights and enforce contracts btw).

Driving is a little more complex situation, because even if roads were in control of the free market (as they can and should be, as should education), there would still most likely be enforcement of driving regulations on privately owned (by the road company) property, rather than agents of the state (police).

Btw, yes, it is stupid to drive intoxicated and give drugs to kids! You just have to be careful about drawing the line where government gets involved. Government = a group of people who have an arbitrary monopoly on legal violence. If a group with this rare exclusive power must exist (which some would argue it shouldn't), its scope has to be extremely limited, and not subject to the whims of the majority (this country was founded as a republic, governed by laws, not by a majority vote - certain things were strictly off limits). At some point this country gradually ceased to be a republic and became a democracy. Once everything becomes able to be voted on, it's deuces wild, anything goes. A dangerous place to be in.

makes you feel funny, sorta kinda like the real stuff, but imho not at all worth it; its expensive, who knows what's in it, and its not like you're going to be sitting at starbucks rippin a doob of fake weed anyway, i.e. you're gonna be in your home or similar private digs so just go for the real green

oh yeah and worst part it smells and tastes like a dupont lab-coat's jock strap

Tug McGraw (father of country star Tim McGraw and ace reliever for the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies) was aked if he preferred real grass to artificial turf and he replied:

"I don't know, I never smoked artificial turf."
