I actually put in an application for the archivist job when it was advertised. No way I would have gotten the job, because I'm under qualified (a PhD can only get you SO far), but you never know so I put in an app. Talk about a dream job!
Well, hopefully you won't get the letter I did...
Dear Candidate,
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to consider your application for the position of Grateful Dead Archivist at the University of California, Santa Cruz. At this time we have selected a short list of candidates to be interviewed.
The applicant pool was very strong and our deliberations very difficult.
I regret to inform you that you are not one of the candidates we are still considering. Ultimately our decision was influenced by the extensive managerial and curatorial experience with special collections and archives held by several candidates, in addition to their deep knowledge and expertise of the Grateful Dead and of American studies.
In the future I would encourage you to again apply for positions at UC Santa Cruz that match your education, experience and interests. Good luck in your continued professional growth and thank you for your interest in our position.
Sincerely,
Kate McGirr
