Hey all. Hoping someone here might have run into this before:

Recently got a Rocktron Midi Mate for ground control with my Axe FX. Programmed everything for controller mode(5 patch presets and 4 CC's)

Had trouble in the beginning, it wouldn't communicate. I unplugged everything, turned the units off, then replugged in hte midi cable and turned everyhting on. It worked perfectly. Played two days at rehearsal space with no problem.

I brought my rig home to work on a Uni-vibe effect. I turned everything on, same exact setup as rehearsal space, and no dice :(

It powers on(the Midi Mate) but it no longer communicated with the Axe Fx. I even bought a new 7 pin midi cable and that doesn't work either.
At this point I am concerned it might be the AXe FX. I have a bunch of shows coming up in 2 weeks and I really am behind the 8 ball here.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Speaking generically for communication between electronic devices but have you tried switching the powerup order?

MM first then the Axe, then the other way around.

I've been reading how midi foot controllers have a nasty habit (read design) of sending messages on start-up or mode changes that can make the host flip out.

I'm looking at the manual now and have questions:
Why are you using a 9 pin when it wants a 5 pin? Are you doing the trick of sending 9VAC over the other 2 pins?
Did you check your midi channel?
Did you check your mode (bank/instant/controller)?
Have you considered doing a factory reset?

He's not using a 9. It's a 7 w/ power for the floor board on pins 6 and 7.


High peaks, it sounds like you've seen this, but if not, it may help you get straightened out.

Its a 7 pin.

I got it to work. Just had to plug and play.

Cool. What was the problem? I would turn it on and off again a number of times in a row to see If I could get it to act up again. In other words, isolate what causes the glitch so you would always know how to fix it on the fly..

He's not using a 9. It's a 7 w/ power for the floor board on pins 6 and 7.

It seems I have to power everything up, then plug the MIDI cable into the back of the Axe.

Thank goodness.

Now to check the neck on my strat!!

Power cycling sucks.

BTW, can you plug in the MIDI to your foot controller afterwards?

Maybe I'm just weird since I have my rack stuff all tucked in nicely, etc. and don't mess with the back!
