I love Gibsons and the Jerry/SG period. That said I love reading about all the gear things going on here about Dead gear. It's here I found out about Andrew.
So there are none of the later electronics in this guitar - I'm not looking for a specific Dead tone. But the influence is undeniable. My old band in Tampa (69 - 75) was not a Dead tribute band but on any given night about a third to a half of our set was material aSSOCIATED WITH THE dEAD. Some of you guys know Steve Connelly from his playing and Zen Studios in the Tampa Bay area. We went thru all those years together and hopefully we're having a reunion in FL in July with at least 4 original members. If the caper comes off we'll be doing plenty of Dead tunes.

-The pick guard and truss rod cover are ebony, with a maple layer, then a blackdyed maple layer.
-Solid Ebony cover plate, with “Bluebird” inlay and silver purfling (Craig Lavin)
-.Top-quality CTS audio-taper pots, with Super Pots for the volumes.
-Gibson ’57 Classic neck & bridge pickups
-Sprague “Orange Drop” vintage-style capacitors for the tone circuits.
-TonePros tune-a-matic bridge and tailpiece, and TP Kluson-style tuners.
-Buzz Feiten Tuning System retrofit and bone nut
The backstory: the guitar is a tribute to my late grandfather and a nod to Garcia and my other SG playing influences. My first "nice" guitar when I was a kid was an SG. I worked all summer and bought it in a pawnshop in Albany, Ga.
My grandfather did some painting on the face of it, using the bluebird on the Buffalo Springfield Again LP cover as a model. As with many other poor boys when I wanted a new guitar I had to sell the one I had. I sold the SG to a friend from whom it was stolen.
Anyone seen it?
Andrew stashed a photo of the old SG and my grandfather somewhere under the wood for some extra mojo. They will also serve as a curse if some motherfucker steals this one.

I love the BF tuning mods, the guitar plays COMPLETELY in tune across the fretboard. The 57's are creamy (I primarily use a MM Custom Vibrolux Reverb) and the tone is right there with my Martino Custom Shop.
Craig's inlay job is beautiful, pics don't do it justice.
