Based on your experience I will make sure no one I know buys a Schecter

I don't think I'd have any trouble finding high quality instrument choices these days with an up to $1K budget, especially used. For example, beautiful '70's/early '80s's Ibanez Musicians of various models have been had on the 'Bay over the past several months at below $1K with 24 frets, a fixed bridge (and stoptail), and 2 splittable HBs. And you'll be buying a vintage axe that will hold its value. You don't "need" to double that budget unless you want to.

I dont like the PRS SEs at all either. And I have found a few of the high end prs that I like but not many. Same with SGs although the new zoot suit SGs play real well. I find they differ a lot even within the same model.

May I suggest one other guitar to try if you go to a big store like GC. I havent heard this guitar mentioned on this forum but it is a smaller version of a gibson 335. Try the gibson 359 ( ignore the $3000 GC prices I am sure it can be gotten cheaper.) Very versatile for lead or rhythm, clean or dirty. Fast neck too. The 339 is similar but a grand cheaper with no gold hardware and rosewood instead of ebony fretboard. Even if you are not too interested in it, its a great guitar to try.

Fixing the Schecter: I can't escape the feeling that the neck on that guitar is fatally screwed. If it wasn't, Schecter would have fixed it by now since they have paid to ship it across the country a couple of times and spent a fair amount of time on the phone giving me a hard way to go. Either way, I am ready to move on to another guitar.

Fair enough, but i'd think you'd want to have somebody other than the morons that didn't do it right the first and second time to have a look. Plus it's no money out of pocket until you actually have a diagnoisis/ planned remedy and decide to go ahead w/ the repair.

Your point is well taken. If there was someone I was working with that I had confidence in, I would probably have a different attitude. But since I don't, I'm not in a hurry to spend any more time or money on that guitar. The only tech I have spoken with in the area is the guy at the GC where I bought the guitar, let's just say he left me unimpressed and leave it at that. Add to that the fact that I am so sick of the way Schecter has treated me that......well, I am REALLY ready to move on to a new guitar.

I should also point out that at the moment, the guitar is in California at Schecter's shop, so I don't even have it in my posession. No one has returned repeated phone calls over the past week to even discuss what is going on, or what the next step is.

Dude, seriously, having a good tech is as important as having good gear.

I'd take that jacked up axe everywhere around that Garden State to find a good tech before buying a new axe.
