Anyone read Growing Up Dead: The Hallucinated Confessions of a Teenage Deadhead by Peter Conners?? Just picked up a copy and since I've been writing a similar book, I was curious. Not even sure if I want to read it just yet, but would love any feedback on it. Anyone?

You're writing something similar? That's really funny; I'm thinking of writing a Dead-related piece of fiction...

I guess the concept is you have a captive audience!

I read that book. It was ok not very well written but the guy tells some intimate stories. I liked the book because I am similar in age as the writer and my story is also similar, growing up, finding the Dead etc. Good luck with your book, alot of my family and friends for years told me to write a book about it. I figure maybe when the story is told.

AJ, not to be a bummer but there are many books like that out there. Almost every GD forum I've been on or visited has had somebody writing about their experiences in around or after the GD.

My suggestion to you is to not be discouraged by this in any way but instead realize that there is a market for your work.

Write from the heart, from your travels, your experiences, time between shows! I know I'd read your book!

I actually don't think there are that many out there because I have a friend who works for a small press up in Vancouver and his editor keeps mentioning that there is a market for these books and he keeps writing to me to get one done! Of course, I'm a deadhead, and one who could never figure out that goddamn mailorder for tickets, much less finish a book
Plus, the more books out there, the better your chances of getting it published as they want a known commodity.
As for mine, I'd even thought of a hook to write a fiction work (boy's teacher dies, leaves him box of tapes and my diary of being on tour, etc.) but was discouraged by the press and told to just go ahead with bio of being "on tour". I'll let you all know when it's nearing completion and what will happen. Wish me luck!

Wasn't it Mark Twain who advised to write about what you know?

Fiction requires a set of skills that usually takes a few attempts to really get. Writers I know say you almost have to get into a "trance" and write this fiction as if you truly were there. Can't say for sure since I'm not writer.

Yea... read it in Sept. '09 (see link below). The guy went the same small college as me... at the same time! And I never met him, knew of him, or heard of him. But we probably knew many of same people. Weird.
