On New Years Eve.........in a cowboy bar 120 miles away........a benefit for the local medical clinic......a $5 cover (seriously???)........on a full moon (make that a blue moon)........with a brand new PA system......booked by a guy named "Turtle." How could anything possible go wrong?!?!

It took us 3 hours to load in, since we had never done it before. We were jammed into a corner by some pinball machines, but managed to put together a decent set up :

We were tuning up at around 9:45 pm, minutes away from starting when blamo the power goes out. OK, no problem, a circuit breaker must have blown. Minutes go by - no power. We go outside, it's bright as day due to the full moon, but no other lights to be seen anywhere - all of Buena Vista is dark. It's the whole town! 15 minutes later, we hear that it's the whole valley - from Salida up to Leadville. This is not good. The bar keeps serving by candlelilght, we have one acoustic guitar and try a couple of singalongs followed by a 15 minute drum/hand percussion jam. It's now 1 hour later - still no power. If a big wire got cut, there is no way it will get fixed on NYE in time for us to do anything. Some folks are out looking for a generator, everyone else (band included) has a raging buzz going. Suddenly, at 11:00 pm, the electricity comes on! We power everything up - screw the setlist and launch into Bertha>Good Lovin. Turns out, BV has a lot of Heads and not a lot of live music. People are dancing and whooping it up. Trainwrecks in just about every song, but who cares, we had fun and more importantly, the crowd had a blast:

Bertha>
Good Lovin
Jack Straw>
Franklin's Tower
Thrill Is Gone
Alabama Getaway>
Promised Land

NYE Countdown
Sugar Magnolia>
Sugaree>
Shakedown Street
Scarlet Begonias>
Fire On The Mountain
Brown Eyed Women
Eyes Of The World>
Goin Down The Road Feelin Bad>
Sunshine Daydream

I Shall Be Released (in honor of the town's biggest employer - the state prison)

We have a standing invitation at the Lariat and they want us to play their outdoor music festival this summer. Crazy oTTo is all growns up - from garage band to bar band - Woohoo!

Cool. As Bobby would say, "Crisis narrowly averted."

We stayed the night - which is another story. BV built a development called South Main Street which is about 3/4 mile from downtown. It's actually like a mini-downtown - except all the stores are vacant and there are maybe 10 other structures around. It looked like we were on some abandoned back lot in Hollywood.
