Hey Now,
I am fairly incompetent when it comes to electronics so I need some advice....

I just got a Music Man HD 130 amp head for a Christmas present.....in cherry condition for its age.......there are no tubes in it but it came with a new set to put in it.

My buddy told me just plug 'em in and go and when I asked about bias he said it didn't matter....

Some other buddy told me it matters a lot.....so what do you guys think....I haven't done anything yet and for sure don't want to muck anything up

any input is very much appreciated

Chances are you won't actually muck anything up, but a properly biased amp will make your power tubes last a lot longer, and one that is very out of balance/bias might burn through them quite quickly.

Is it the solid-state preamp model, or one of the early HD-130's (74-76) that has tubes in the preamp?

I am taking it to the shop tomorrow......as far as I know ....what I was told anyhow is that it is an early model....I'll ask about the pre amp tubes when it goes to the doctor......I also have the HD 410 that is my main amp and love it.....loud and nasty.....

Does it have several smaller (12a_7) tubes or just the large power tube quartet?
