and did any body else who saw phil along with trey on the summer tour feel that trey was kind of showboating too much?

I personally thought they were much better during the winter tour at the tower!

i have never heard phish in my life so i did not know how trey plays. i think id rather just see Phil and friends alone.

Anyway the reason i asked for last nights set list was, after the first set my friends were very tired since phil didnt come out until 9:45. so after they played The Eleven in the second set my friends say they are going to take a walk. about 10 minutes later they call me and say, "we are at the car, if you dont come we are leaving without you." since i couldnt get a ride with anyone else, unfortunately, i left.

Also, my friends (who are going out) were being sticks in the mud the entire night and wouldnt even stand up during any of the songs!

You should check Phish out, dude. Their totally different from the Dead, though everyonce in a while they'll cover a song.

I hate it when you take a friend along to a concert and they make it obvious that they don't enjoy the show at all. My friend who was at Wakarusa with me sat down durning every show, and just played with the grass.

i dont really give other jam bands a chance because i always compare them to the dead right away. its pretty sad but its true, i really cant take jam bands other than the dead.

i never got to see phish either, they broke up before i knew who they were. but i have a phish show on cd. trey's a good guitarist.

Going to see Phil next Saturday at Darien Lakes. I'm super excited; one because I love Phil's approach, and two, because he has JOHN FREAKIN" SCOFIELD!!! in his band this tour. The rest of the band is Rob Barraco on keys, John Molo on drums, Joan Osborne singing, and another guitarist ( Mark Campbell or something like that, I don't think it's Barry Sless this time ).

Phish never did much for me, but phreaker, although I do love da Dead to death, there are LOTS of other great bands out there worthy of your time and attention. One jam band I would HIGHLY reccomend to anyone is Little Feat.

There were a number of surprises in this show, I thought. Rosemary is an example of Phil's somewhat eccentric habit of pulling out an old, somewhat obscure and not so often played song. The concert was long. 10pm - 1:20am. about 2 hours and 40 minutes of music when the break is taken into account. At our age, my wife and I struggle to stay up this late but wre certainly happy we did. I think of Phil also, he is around 61 and it must be very tiring to put out the level of energy he does for these shows.

Trey can be overpowering on stage. He definitely takes over the majority of lead playing when he is up there. Not to say that he doesn't let the other guitar players do their thing, but he defintely is commanding when playing and I think other players back off. This probably from leading a band for years and being the sole guitar player in the band.

I am not a big Phish fan. I don't really get the music. The entire band I play in went to the show and we do some Phish. The other guitar player, Ross and the drummer Jeff being the a-Phish-ianadoes. Ross, for whom Trey is held in the same standing as Jerry is for most folks on this site, thought they stretched things out too long and I agree Trey overplayed. Long shows are good and jams are good, but a few more tunes are fine also.

That said, there is no doubt that Trey is a fabulously talented guitar player and does deserve a lot of credit for what he has done for jam band music as well. I think he sounds better with Phil than in almost any other context I have heard him play.

It was cool that they opened the first set with China Cat and ended the second with I Know You Rider which was an interesting way to structure a show. The encore was a very nice rendition of Box of Rain.

Sorry that you could not stay until the end. Walking out of a concert is one thing, having to leave does suck. The bass player Steve and his s.o. left around 12:30, and folks were defintely giving up due to the lateness of the event.

Anyway, I still would rather go than not. I am happy that Phil has continued to devote himself to keeping the music alive and out there.

Phish (at least their 90-95 soundz and musicks that were my peak of phandom) is much more comparable to Frank Zappa or Led Zeppelin or... Dread Zeppelin, or even Emerson Lake & Palmer than even remotely to the Dead. ...imho

i saw the Feat at Wakarusa in 05. AMAZING set! They did covers of Dark Star and Tennessee Jed, and then jammed into Dixie Chicken. It was amazing.

I dont want to give off the impression that the ONLY music I listen to is the Dead. I do listen to them more than any other, true, but there always has to be a band to fill that position. I am very in touch with the local music scene here in Lawrence, Ks., though.
