Well, it's not an especially "Jerry"-ish start. The DiMarzios -> Fender Twin (Showman, etc) formula is pretty much the starting point for Jerry's tone, and Gilmore played through a whole bunch of different rigs. But if you're just looking to get the same effects, I'd think about adding a Boss OC-2 and an emma discombobulator (for the Mu-Tron sound). Those with the distortion (I don't know all that much about the Bad Monkey) and the delay will give you pretty much all of his effects options at well under $500. But you're not going to get that bell-like Jerry tone without the Fender amp and something awfully close to the JBL speaker combo; and a Tele is always gonna be a Tele (which I love - but...). So, kinda depends on which way you want to take it...

How do you like the CeriaTone? I've heard about them, but haven't seen much in the way of reviews...

I also am a big Jerry and Gilmour guy. I have a Twin with 2 Beyma Liberty's. I have a Jer guitar and a Gilmour guitar.
I had the EMG DG-120 system in my strat but recently changed to custom shop 54's. I also have a piezo bridge (which works really well for later Gilmour stuff (Division bell).

When I think of Gilmour a few tones come to mind. A clean Neck strat tone (think end solo in Echo's on Pompei-Shine on intro). No effects just good reverb. I also think of super reverb and fuzzy distortion. Big muff is a good place to start for Gilmour distortion (echos solo, Time solo). I have a Tone Bone tube distortion peddle that's super nice for Gilmour distortion.

You can check out http://www.gilmourish.com/ for anything and everything Gilmour. I mean literally every gear aspect.

Party on

Does anyone have any experience with both the MXR Distortion and the Ibanez Tube Screamer? I have been playing the MXR Distortion for the past year and a half or so but I'm seeing that it seems alot of guys play the TS-9 instead (Both Pearl Jam guitarists, Trey, etc.). I love Garcia's tone and try to take alot of pointers from it but I'm not trying to replicate it.

JW if anyone here has anyt thoughts on the two of these pedals compared to each other...I've been thinking about picking up the TS.

TS = emphatic mids hump
MXR = much flatter response curve

"Does anyone have any experience with both the MXR Distortion and the Ibanez Tube Screamer? "

I have both on my board. I run MXR into tube screamer. Tube screamer alone for a little dirt and tube scream with MXR for like a Jerry 87 distortion tone.

That's pretty cool using both, sort of like Trey's two TS. I was watching some demo's on youtube and it seems like the TS can get some better high's for solos.

I actually use the MXR for crisp highs with dirstortion. So many different combos. Although I admit I realized I would never get to Jerrys tone so I am going after what I dig which ironically is just like Jerys tone!?!?!?!?! :roll:

For a smaller budget like that I would get a QTron over an Emma - simply 'cause half your budget would go to one pedal - the Emma .....
good luck

The moment I ran the MHX with my tube screamer MSG '87 all the way. That screaming solo in AM dew.
