That indeed works for many folks. But man, once you get used to the OBEL with the master volume control right there within pinky's reach, no matter where you are on stage, no matter how "balanced" you are feeling, and no matter how precise your foot control is, it's hard to beat the precision and ergonomics. Volume pedals are by nature a bit less precise and you really do have to stand just right so you can have balance on one foot while the other goes to the VP and sets it exactly right.
Add the little toggle switch to entirely bypass the pedal loop, and you see why Jer' stuck with that OBEL setup till the end.
