From the classic album "Where the Beat Meets the Street"! What a hoot!
I remember buying that album pretty much the day it came out in the summer of 84. It was Weir's last attempt at getting the radio hit he was always so desperate to get. It is pure pop schmaltz. I was so into EVERYTHING GD related at the time, that I actually listened to that album a bunch that summer and made a cassette of the LP to take in my car.
That band had world class players in it, from Billy Cobham, to Kenny Gradney to Bobby Cochran.
Cochran wrote The song in the video: "I want to live in America" and seemed to have the most pure pop apprach from a songwriting standpoint.
There is a song on the Album called "Rock in the 80's" written by Cochran and includes the chorus: "I would like to thank Chuck Berry and the man who sang the Summertime Blues" which was a little tongue in cheek nod to Bobby Cochrans late uncle Eddie Cochran.
Weirs writing contributions were typically twisted including a song called "thunder and lightning" (with Bobby doing his high pitched Estimated screams as the end) and "Gloria Monday" Gloria Monday had a high cheese factor too, but now that I am thinking about it I cant get it out of my head. I am going to have dig that out from somewhere.
I absolutely love Bobby Cochrans Ibanez cowboy. I like it even more than Weirs cowboys from a pure guitar standpoint. He had 2 of them.
