All that I can say is they are the best sounding guitars I own
The stock PUs sound very similar to super IIs
The EQ (on the 400 and 500 only) allow you to fine tune the sound
The neck is a super slick neck thru
Quality thruout

If I were you I would start out with a lowere series model (,200,300)
to determine how you like the feel and overall quality.
Then move up to the higher series (400, 500,)
The only complaint I have heard about these guitars are the weight and sometimes the EQs can be noisey

im not even sure i would want one with eq, and i probably wouldnt mod it. i prefer simple controls

wn =WINE.........this was a color option on the 80-82 Musicians (the "50's") as was PW (Polar white....Trey had one of these) ..... and some Red color designation too.

good rule of thumb:
77-79 Musicians always ended in a "00" (MC 100 200 300 400 500)

80-82 always ended in "50" (MC 150, 350, 550)

The 1982 MC 350's and 550's were probably the pinnacle of the musician series and are the hardest to find and go for the most money.
Scott Murawki from Max Creek (and now Billy K's and Mike Gordons bands) played a Natural MC350 as his main guitar from 1982 until he got his Languedoc in 2005. Maybe Im nuts but if he allowed me to take one guitar from him. I would take the MC350 over the 'doc, that MC350 was a magic guitar for him, and I am not selling the doc short it is an unbelievable guitar!

According to the 80s the color designations
are
FR=Fire Red
PW= Polar White
DS= Dark Stain
BK= Black
NT=Natural
WN=Walnut
Even though the 350 and 550 are the rarest, It is the models with the super 88 pickups are the best sounding.
The X50 series did start out with 88s, but then switched to 58s.
58s IMO, do not sound as sweet as 88s

Andy Trister has a late 70's MC500 or MC500. Not sure if he hangs here..

Anyway, as a Jerry guitar, it sounded great with the stock Super 88 pups. He eventually gave it the full Jerry mods, including the OBEL, etc. Great Jerry guitar.

I recently sold my '81 MC550 KOA with Super 88's. As a stock guitar, it was great as a Jerry or Bob guitar. Very versatile!
