Thinking about trading a Les Paul for an SG. What do yall think? I feel that an SG will be easier to play, plus jerry played an sg more than les paul, right?

SG is lighter, that's one thing.

Probably about equal time for JG on each model, a little under two years on each. Roughly speaking, 50's Les Pauls (at least 3 different ones known) were used pretty consistently mid '67 through late '68, and SG's were: the '67 SG Standard during first 3/4 of '69, and then the '61 LP-SG for approx the last 3/4 of 1970. Not including the short-lived variations on each that had brief appearances throughout early and mid '71: the Turner "Peanut" w/ SG Custom neck & pups, Guild S100, LP TV Special, and flame LP Deluxe.

The SG has easier access to the higher frets, lighter, looks more "wicked"...sounds different than the LP....speaking for myself, I prefer the SG because it feels more "comfortable"...

I agree, i played an Epi Les Paul for a year and just as far as playability goes, an SG is more friendly. Plus, the SG is just a bad ass looking guitar.

I played my first 20 some years of electric-guitar playing on Les Pauls... started on an Ibanez 3 pickup bolt-on neck Les Paul Black Beauty copy (I wish I still had that), and then a 2-pickup cherry-sunburst Gibson Les Paul "Kalamazoo" (basically a "Standard").

Anyway... whenever I play a 24.75" scale length, it feels great to my little sausage fingers!
So what "Jerry Guitars" are available in 24.75" scale length???

Has anybody here ever converted an Epiphone 3-Pickup Les Paul or SG to a Jerry guitar?
I'm guessing you would want whatever the "brightest" Jerry guitar-wiring set-up was (which was that?), in order to compensate for the inherent Mahogony bass-ee-ness.

These look like a low-budget Jerry guitar possibility. You could always move the electronics to another guitar down the road.

LP's are great but oh so heavy...I'm too old to hold them. I have a Martino which feels like a light LP, but still heavier than my SG (Andrew Olsen has it now doing some cool mods for me - BF intoning, pots, pickups, TonePro, and some nice cosmetic stuff).

I like the SG more these days. Still has the big Gibson sound but sleek and light. Also, my first "good" guitar back in mid 60s was an SG, the whole full circle thing.

Can you explain what "BF intoning" is?

Gibson recently made a bunch of "Faded SGs", real Gibsons that they're selling for about $600 and they are awesome. They're just like the standard nice SGs that they make but in a matte finish instead of shiny. I highly recommend getting one if you are in the market and can find one. I'm not all that much of a guitar player but I have one at the house and it just sings/screams/wails/everything you could want out of it.

I recently got one of these (1966 set neck model) for $225 new. So I could start messing around with an inexpensive piece and do my own set up and pick up swaps etc... without doing any damage. I just got my first soldering iron so it will probably not work in another week or so. I hope to soup it up and make it a real blues driver.

I love my SG w/ Cowboy mods. It's light and I've become a fan of the Gibson scale. Although it's not a real Gibson, my bro-in-law bought it for me overseas. He was amazed what a great deal it was, I just don't have the heart to tell him it's a fake. Surprisingly, the guy that did the mods said it was really well built and basically an Epi w/ a Gibson label.

Buzz Feiten compensated nut/intonation system. Some love, some hate. I'm gonna give a try on Andrew's advice. I think it will help the shorter scale.
