jeffm, the 4/23/83 was awesome... pretty similar Space>TOO as 6/27, but while imo it is slightly less "telepathic"/synchronous, it makes up for it in full-bore chaotic energy!
That 2 night New haven run 4/22-23 is great proof of the axiom "When Phil is on the Dead are on" because Phil was all over the place both nights. On 4/22 they did a Cold Rain and Snow in the middle of the first set, (rare slot for a tune that was in light rotation at the time anyway) and Phil just flat out carpet bombed New Haven Coliseum. He was doing it during Fire on the Mtn on 4/23 too. You can really feel it on the Auds of those 2 nights. I should make a SBD-Aud Matrix of 4/23 set 2.
Huge energy in the building both nights as it was a Friday-Saturday in New England which always brought the heat from an energy standpoint.
as an aside, I had on sirius yesterday when I was cleaning out my daughters closets and they played 5/9/77 as their complete show of the day. 5/7 and 5/9 are almost as well known and over played as 5/8 so I havent gone into that show for a while, but I would be hard pressed to count on one hand anything EVER better than the Comes a Time on 5/9/77 as far as my taste in Grateful Dead music and what moves me. Jerry's solo over the verse progression is just sublime and the jam coming out of the Only Love can fill coda is out of this world. Sirius plays though my TV satellite Dish provider, so it is actually DVR'able and after the live pass though the first solo and coda, I must have rewound back to the solo section 10 times. His phrasing and build comeing back into the verse is just ridiculously expressive guitar playing, and the pinch harmonics in the coda are so on the money (and kudos to the rest of the band for playing with the progession and giving it different flavors and colors as Jer is weaving his magic.!) It always reminds me why these kind of shows get overplayed and overtalked about in the first place, it is because they really do bring the goods!
