"The Universe: Pulsars & Quasars" Scheduled to air on THE HISTORY CHANNEL
Tuesday, October 27 at 09:00 P.M.

During The Dead's Spring Tour, Mickey Hart debuted the "UNIVERSE OF SOUND." Each night of the Tour Hart connected audiences with the universe's most celestial vibrations from the Big Bang to the rings of Saturn to the Black Hole. Hart said, "The idea was to take our audience on a nightly tour of some part of our universe during our 'space concerto' section. The next day we put it up on our website so the kids could follow it." This got the interest of the folks at the History Channel who produce the acclaimed "The Universe" series. They came out to Hart's studio and spent an afternoon doing interviews for the segment being produced on Pulsars and Quasars.

Caught the show last night on History channel. Was worth watching but nothing that was mind-blowing in regards to Mickey... the Cosmos of course are another story.

Mickey does throw out a couple cool quotes and made note of "how interesting" pulsars are. It's also very cool that SITA gave him acess to the "motherload" of sounds from space. Like the true Cosmonaut Mickey is, he said working on his music made from the sounds of space was a "deep and spiritual experience" for him.

:D :D :D :D

as an above poster put in a more elegant manner: Mickey is a wack job  He is definitely "following his weird" (and I love it!)

lets see.....(I do not endorse some of the following)
Doses himself, his horse and his Dog simutaneously before going on Nature rides.
making an album of the heartbeat of an unborn baby
writes song around sound of a well pump
Has been seen at or is a member of Bohemian Grove

.............
lets keep this going. listing all of Mickeys oddities could turn into rukinds record thread!

don't know about horses and dogs on LSD... but it sounds kind of interesting and DEFinitely weird

Within the last year or two I read and saw pictures of old pieces of redwood in which he has installed pickups. The wood is played with soft mallets and the sound is amplified for the players through their headphones (all the players are wearing headphones in the picture that I saw).

Pretty weird and really cool and it really reminds me of how everyone on the bus, Furthur, was wearing headphones at all times to keep in touch with each other and hear every sound around the bus.
