It is a good one but I'll take most '77 versions over it. I do love what Bob is doing with his bending harmonics in that one. Jerry does a lot of jamming but overall I find it very repetitive. I still love it though. Also check out the "Deal" and "Birdsong" from that show.

I dug up a goodie today I haven't heard in a while. I believe 11-21-73, Denver Coliseum. The best version isn't the Charlie Miller believe it or not, but the 4th or 5th version down. Unbelieveable quality. Bob just kills me on this one.

I love that 11/21/73 show, used to have a A+ cassette copy of that gig. Some of the best dynamics I have heard from the boys, likely because of the 1-drummer setup

Never heard this one! Come to think of it, there are still a handful of fall 73 (and fall 72) I have yet to hear... no time like the present as they say...

Hmmm what I have been revisiting lately? A lot of dawn of the 70's: The TIFTOO from 2/13/70, the stanky garage-yness of 3/21/70 ("Walkin' The Dog", "Viola Lee", the final, [trainwreck-y] "He Was Friend") ... and 4/28/71 (with the final T.C. "Dark Star")

4/23/83 sbd.......has been wearing my cd player out lately. Phil is just so ON. Jerry's tone is at the top of its form (IMO). Wonderful Space>TOO where they intro it for at least 10 minutes coming out of space, first just Jer and Bob and then whole band, with Jerry going with crazy effect combos (great sound at one point with the Mutron and dist + on together). The Scarlet>Fire set 2 opener is epic. Bobby butchers the arrangement of Lost sailor cutting out Jerry solo and going to the Bridge too early but recovers nicely with a pleasing driftin and dreamin segment.
First set has a great Lazy Lightnin>supplication

Double encore OMSN>Brokedown (sweet brokedown too)

TS you got great taste in Spring 83 shows, I love those shows, I did most of that tour (and I was only a soph in High school, but East coast shows I could make it back to school by 8:00 am the next day from almost anywhere ) .........Charlie Miller calls 4/23 set 2 his favorite of the tour, something must be happening there.

Threw on the first set of 10-9-1989 last week on a drive back from a hike. I imagine it often gets overlooked for obvious reasons. Love me a Built to Last; the Stranger is just perfect, I don't think they touched it for Without a Net. Ramble On, Jack a Roe, Row Jimmy - all real nice. And yes, I did a little screamin along with Bobby on Memphis. Had the Attics encore on there to boot.

Dug 9/27/72 last night (DP11) Opens w/Morning Dew! The Dark Star>Cumberland is not to be missed. High energy jazz/space. You can hear Phil going for Cumberland a few minutes before they actually get there. Love it when that happens!!

The 3/21/70 I've been driving to lately has the ultrakiller suite of Viola> The Seven> Cumberland.

jeffm, the 4/23/83 was awesome... pretty similar Space>TOO as 6/27, but while imo it is slightly less "telepathic"/synchronous, it makes up for it in full-bore chaotic energy!

I stopped in 77 at THAT show and played the Dancin' - It is just an amazing piece of music.
Anybody here on tour for the 5/77 run? Was it insane in the lots waiting for the next show?
I am loaded up with new boards from 73 and 74. I am loving the quint!

BTW you should have seen the look on the girls face at the Dylan show in Vegas last week when I was wasted and explaining to her how the Dead from 72 and the Dead from the late 80's were not even the same band. I think I had a shot up until then...
