I'm no Beatles official historian...but I know a thing or two about 'em.

I heard a chum named Stuart Sutcliffe was their bassist for about a year. Now I always thought Paul and John were the two original members. but his this Stuart fella was on bass...what was Paul doing?

There's an entertaining biopic of Stu Sutcliffe and the very early Hamburg-era Beatles, called Backbeat, directed by Iain Softley. It focuses on the deep friendship between John and Stu and it might actually be my favorite Beatle biography.

I don't remember... probably rented it or watched it on VH1 maybe. It came out in 1993.
