Someone asked me one time, "How come everbody I know that likes Phish likes the Grateful Dead, but every deadhead I know hates Phish?" I said, "I don't know I guess you'd have to be a deadhead to understand."Not only is that assertion wildly inaccurate, but do you see the faulty logic contained?
Phish Phans and Deadheads are not 2 seperate groups. They overlap- HUGELY. Phish was kinda like an "underground" GD in a way, during about 89-93. It was like my picture of what GD tour may have been like before the 80's crowds.
The music??? VASTLY different, but endlessly inventive and full of of both poignancy and silly fun.
I for one have great love both, but unlike the Dead, I feel that Phish DID peak (in 94 and 95) and afterwards RAPIDLY lost the mojo that had worked so well on me for the previous 4-5 years and approx 40 show. 96 I just didn't feel it anymore, and I only saw about 6 more shows, trying and failing to get it back.
I believe what you might be trying to say is that Deadheads who hate Phish vastly outnumber the reverse, and they are much bigger ass-hats about it (present company excluded of course) , especially in GD forums.
