Yesterday, I finally replaced my bookshelf stereo speakers
that I have used for 28 years. They suck , I got a pair of floor JBL LX55, didn't reseach them or even try them before I bought them, luckily they are the right ohm..
I got home put in a cd from 1980, and boy oh boy Phil is back...
those babys were rumbling and growling, the rest of the band sounded great too, very exciting
but it has been the bass I have been missing for all these years...
I might actually start listening to music again...yippee for me!!

Hey astroman, congrats on the good buy!

I just got a laptop this summer and started downloading torrents like mad off of etree. Consequently, I spent a lot of time listening to my new shows.

Alas, I did not realize what I was missing until I borrowed my roommates big ear-enveloping Sony headphones. Compared to laptop speakers its like night and day. And ya, Phil is definitely present The music just makes so much more sense when you can hear Phil stirring the pot.

Now I just gotta get myself a pair of good headphones so I can give my roommates back... I can't stop listening!!!

Amen for home systems! I'd gotten so used to hearing stuff on my IPod that I thought my car stereo was hi-fi!

Hey astroman, if your amp is as old as your speakers were, you should consider replacing it too, I went through the same upgrade process (speakers first, then amp) a few years ago and was amazed at the difference it made.

Oh yea? When somebody drives by 300 feet away from my house (at 10 at night) and their bass shakes my house, that's too much bass. I can only wish them an early Deaf. Goddamned kids nowadays!

Thanks emoto.. I did upgrade my amp a few years back ...used 5.1 JVC, but it pumps these speakers pretty good.
It used to be when I turned up the volume it just got louder, now it gets louder but more clarity.. and the bass, oh what a palete(sic..you know like you use for painting).

Thanks emoto.. I did upgrade my amp a few years back ...used 5.1 JVC, but it pumps these speakers pretty good.

I think some speakers require a minimum amount of power be put through them before they reproduce the whole audio spectrum accurately.
