maybe someone out there can help me, i'm looking for my all-time fave dead tape. problem is, it was recorded off a 2LP bootleg vinyl record i came accross in the mid-80s. it was called Europe 74 i'm pretty sure. i only have an old cassette copy of it but i need to get a better copy to keep. does anyone know of this record?
sounds 80s to me, but anyways, here's the setlist on it: rooster, china/rider, estimated, eyes, space, drums, playing in the band/comes a time/playing in the band, round and round, alabama getaway. (90 min tape)
i LOVE this most of all my dead tapes. so hopin you all can help me track down which damn show it is so i can get a proper/new copy!

it would make 0 sense if it was called europe 74 as some of the tunes you named werent even done in 74 let alone until late 79 through early mid 80s. wish i could help but i wouldnt be lookin for a europe 74 as ive never heard of such a thing,].. theres europe 72 which has china rider, playin, ect. but no estimated eyes as that didnt come around till 77ish alabama 79 or 80 rooster 80s

you can search it on deadbase. just put the tunes in and the years its between and itll give you a list of all the shows those songs were played together. just search deadbase on google, but if its a compilation liek a dicks picks deadbase will be useless

Definitely Uptown 80.

In the mid 80's, my brother had a cassette side with 8/19/80's Playin>CAT>Playin>Around>Alabama on it that became my very first bootleg, so the story is really ringing a bell for me, but it was unlabeled when I copied it, and I didn't know its origin for several years.

thanks, pat. yeah, i reckon it sounds early 80s. i can't think of a way to figure out what show this could be. i'm afraid my best bet may be to find a copy of the darn bootleg LP itself somewhere some day. if anybody has a better idea, well, i would hope to return the favour in kind somehow. you bet!

wicked. you folks have found it. incredible. muchos gracias!! have had this tape since about 85 and now finally i know which show it is! aug 19 1980 uptown theater. i actually haven't played my tape in a long while cuz i was afraid it would die. as lotsa old cassettes eventually do. i been outa the loop for a while since i moved to vancouver, bc. still have all my tapes but haven't swopped in ages.
so, how would you all suggest i go about getting hold of this show? i likely don't have any great dead stuff that you all don't, but i do have a decent collection of other rare and neat stuff. if someone out there would like to do a swap, i'll do my best to please! just need to have this lovely show on disc! and you know, i've never heard the first set either.
BTW, i wrote some features for Relix mag back in the early -mid 90s, maybe you had come accross some.
look forward to hearing suggestions as to aquiring this show! thanks!

well i gotta say, i remember almost every note of this (2nd set) and i wasn't wrong, most of these perfs are my fave of those particular songs, china/rider is exquisite, comes a time just gorgeous, prophet has the ultimate jerry solo (as do most of these songs, he was playing really well this night!). the jazzy bits are wonderful and alabama getaway has great energy. damn fine show! will have to check out the first set. too bad the mp3 quality is so prevalent, gaps between all the songs and all that. still, shouldn't complain, thought i was gonna have to finally invest in one of those turntables that saves tapes and lps to hardrive. still might do that as i have a lot of rare stuff on tape, not just dead. but this was the tape i was most concerned about. great to have it. thanks again for your help in identifying it. maybe one day i'll find that bootleg lp of it (called Europe 74!) just to have it on lovely vinyl.
