It turns out I'm can't get a guitar made anymore, (the guy is moving going to colorado for some internship). So instead I planned on making a Warmoth guitar - I really like the LSP body style - but besides that I am getting the H-H-H configuration and need some help picked humbuckers, I don't want to get Super 2's because I am not trying to sound like jerry but I do want a clean sounding pickup with a little edge to it - This is the wood set-up so you guys get a sense of the sound

Also are there any good books for guitar wiring? I plan on doing the coil taps and possibly adding waldo's buffer.

i am pretty sure that the dimarzio super 2 gives you that clean, pure sound with a slight edge to it that you are looking for!!! i am wondering here, you are on a GD equipment website and talking with people who spend countless hours researching tones of The Grateful Dead ( which in my opinion took professional live music to another level, these guys whole lives practically revolve around music and tone and perfection in both performing and equipment). So why not trust in the road which has been paved for you, and just get the equipment and concentrate on the music! " if you get confused, then listen to the music play" like any person who really enjoys playing, i think you are always gonna try to tweak your sound . so dont get stuck on trying to make the perfect choice because IT IS A WORK IN PROGRES!!!!! I use the super 2 's and it doesnt really sound completely like jerry and it is clean and at times can sound a bit edgy, i love it !!! but then again i just love to play!!! final recommendation is the super 2's and then you can have a reference point and work on from there !!!!! i

Some guys like DiMarzio, others like myself prefer Seymour Duncan. I'm a huge fan of the Pearly Gates as well as the '59s from Duncan. Both I believe are lower output than the Super 2's. I believe Strummin' and T Jedi both have mentioned loving the Pearly Gates pickups as well.

I would spend some time on both the DiMarzio and Duncan websites, they have audio samples and you can A/B the sounds.

Mr. Crazy Fingers has good advice with the Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates - I have one with a coil tap in the bridge of my Strat and I love it .....
I have a Ibanez Musician in the shop getting two DiMarzio Super 2's and a HS-2 ( 3 ? ) and the rest of the mods. It will be a learning curve for sure. I love the Strats sounds and am a bit nervous the Super 2's wont have the " twang " needed ....
I went with the HS-2 ( or 3 ... cant remember ) on the advice of another guy here. I couldnt make up my mind about the neck pup and decided to go with it ...
But I cant wait to experiment !

Yea, beacuse my band is going to start doing originals and I didn't wanna sound like I'm trying to get a jerry sound and not even play like him. But ok, this is going through a 75 Twin reverb. But ok thanks alot!
