As I go through my rig, again, I'm finding some pedals stay, others go, some are just there and will go one day...
... But others are my rig. There is no chance in hell I'd get rid of them and don't even audition other pedals!!!!!

I'm sure I'm not alone! Let's talk about our #1 pedals!!!

Serrano Picoso - amazingly clean boost! It will, of course, cook your preamp but if you have headroom left she'll take you there! Adds zero noise!
Emma Discumbobulator - I nail delicious rhythm and lead tones! Never could I find an envelope that can do chords well!!! Wow!
Barber LTD SR - ever wanna sound like you just goosed your preamp perfectly and are clipping but your tone doesn't change! Yup, I found it here! Nirvana!!!!
Maxon PH350 - Couldn't did the MXR phasers. All were so muddy and lame to my ears. Then this baby! And the slight rotary! It's dripping water wet goodness!
Deeelay - kudos cmatmods! Sounds analog, and can go from slight where you could reverb to ambient, to slapback, to extreme spacey weirdness and goodness!

These are mine. I love them all! One day I will likely start buying backups of each of these babies! They make me smile!

everything true-bypass and in the OBEL... and +1 on the Fender REVERB

very little has changed on my board for a couple years now, except my Overdrive. The last pedal in this spot was a self-modded Boss SD-1 (call it somewhat of a TS-808 mod that left the clipping assymetrical). Well, last winter while trying for further mods and switching out the IC I accidentally fried the thing beyond recovery (always a danger when going right to the PCB instead of using a socket). Oh well. Its replacement was the inexpensive Danelectro CTO-1 Transparent Overdrive and I couldn't be more pleased. It seems capable of every sound from a Screamer to say, an MI-Audio Crunchbox, to a Distortion+ . Definite keeper! The only thing I don't like is the blue LED that is so glaringly bright, like so many items seem to have these days. Makes it kinda hard to see my other status lights.

Qtron, Boss Octave OC2 and Analog Man Tube Screamer, I still haven't found a non-rack delay or phaser I'm happy with.

I have been a pedal junkie, and have over 90 pedals.
In all honesty, most of them are pretty damn sweet. I could make a board I'd be happy with if I closed my eyes and picked at random.

That said, some of them are pretty much always going to be with me:

Analogman Triple-modded Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man (this is the first, last, and only word in delay for me, and I have a few)

Catalinbread Silver Kiss (a truly great overdrive)

Emma DiscomBOBulator (simply a perfect pedal)

Foxrox Aquavibe (a vibe pedal that doesn't insist that you play Hendrix or Trower)

Mutron Phasor II (I don't always use it because it's so damn big, and I have several other great phasers, but this is the apogee)

Catalinbread Sagrado Poblano Picoso (one of the predecessors of the OPs Serrano Picoso, and a truly sound-defining piece of equipment)


There are several more truly great ones I can put in here, but these are the ones that came to me off the top of my head, lying in bed.

Catalinbread Silver Kiss (a truly great overdrive)

Firstly, welcome Wooley! And Nice to see a fellow Catalinbread fan here!

Tell me more about the Silver Kiss. At one point I was ready to make a Catalinbread board for jams but they never released their phaser.

The only one so far is the MXR Distortion+ (script logo, hand-painted, no AC). So far there`s been nothing like it. It`s kind of like you described your Barber LTD SR, strumminsix. It does`nt alter your guitar`s character. If anything it really seems to accentuate it and surround it in nice warm fuzz. Forget about the Dunlop version. I`ve had that too and it`s run of the mill. A couple of possible keepers might be the Boss GE-7 Equalizer and the Q-Tron+. Although I`m not 100% satisfied with the Q-Tron`s ability to nail Estimated, I`ve been running it as a tone enhancer (range-lo, mode-hp, gain-0, peak 1/4 or 9 o`clock, boost-off) and it just makes my tone jump out of my amp. Guess it boosts up the mids and it helps with my CVR RI (which has no mid adjust in TONESTACK(!)). I`m going to try a Riddle Q-Balls and quite possibly run that along with the Q-Tron. Also, as per your glowing praise, I`m eventually going to try a Barber LTD SR. It looks like it has more tonal options and is just as if not more transparent than the Distortion+. Thanks for all your input here, strumminsix! I`m diggin it! In about 2 months time I`ve taken a crash course here and am on my way to getting the tone worries out of the way so that I`m freed up to just play. And now I`m learning from my past mistakes and the mistakes of others what to avoid. As George Bush Jr. so eloquently stated, "Fool me once.................won`t get fooled again!"

Thanks for all your input here, strumminsix! I`m diggin it! In about 2 months time I`ve taken a crash course here and am on my way to getting the tone worries out of the way so that I`m freed up to just play.

You are welcome!!! AND YES! YES! YES! That's is what it's all about! 100%!!!! As soon as you stop thinking about TONE or EFFECTS since it's there you can focus on the music. In my mind it's very similar to knowing a tune 100%. When you have your part 100% then you can listen and focus on your bandmates and how the band is sounding overall!
