So thanks a bunch to you all who've chimed in here - it's much appreciated.

So I took a ride down to Brooklyn yesterday after work to see Jason and, well, lets put it this way - I played one setup and left with it!

Jason, feel free to give more detail than I'll be able to but here's the breakdown - as I understood it! And that's not to say Jason didn't go to great lengths to explain everything - it's just that an old sponge can only hold so much water.

So it's a fender twin reverb head, morphed from a twin '76 case, (maybe just the plate - I think jason has the cases custom made) with '64 twin blackface circuitry on the primary channel and a custom Mesa Boogie-ish tone on the secondary channel. Secondary has a tone bypass switch as well for a straight signal.

Single reverb for both channels and master volume slot modded to a separate vibrato circuit that serves both channels as well.

Cab w/ 2x12 JBL m-120 - 8's. I certainly did my back no service with this - hand truck here I come! But does it sound nice! Headroom I'll never visit. Crisp, clean and warm.

Jason please add (or correct!) as you see fit.

I didn't even plug into anything else! Played this for about 2 hrs though I think I knew in the 1st 5 minutes.

Thanks so much Bill...

Bill picked up a custom modified Twin Reverb Head, #27. Each one has been different to some degree based on client needs, etc. They all stay true to form insomuch as I adhere to all the stuff we've learned over the years about Garcia and Weir's rig. We matched Bill up with a bangin' 2x12" hardwood cab loaded with early 80's JBL M-121-8's.

The only thing I can add is that Bill is an amazingly talented guitarist with an uncanny touch and feel for the Jerry stuff. It was so great to hear one of my creations pushed hard by someone who knows his shit. Had a great time hanging with him.

#28 is on the bench today getting molested.

Question will be about inflatable tires, etc. The things are fairly convenient, hold an amazing amount of weight for their size and fold up nice to fit in the vehicle without a huge regular hand truck taking a lot of room and banging around.

http://www.handtrucks.com. I got the Clipper 70 Jet Set Hand Truck. That may not be quite enough for your rig, but something to think about.

Glad you found something you liked, Billbbill. Always good to hear a success story. Apologies for my lower end suggestions. And in fact, generic suggestions. I have needed a more generic amp up until recently.

Thanks Dave! I'm gonna check out that link - I was just at Staples earlier today and they had a foldable job that had these tiny hard plastic wheels and construction that, aside from seeming somewhat rickety looking, supposedly supported 250lbs. but had these bars just inside the wheels even with the back of them. Made me think that as you'd lower it down steps it'd mark them up. I immediately thought of larger inflatable wheels (like the real hand truck I already have) as you mentioned, but compact.

My bad with how I phrased the topic title. I lowered the bar. I suppose I wanted to avoid suggestions that were really outta line, like in the 2k neighborhood. I may have overdid it a bit but I figure I've been playing for 20 something years and this will only be my 3rd amp, so I'm ahead of the game.

You're too kind Jason. Hell, it's guys like you, Vic, Tom, Nick and all you others actively bringing this tasty music, live, to folks on a nightly basis. I haven't played live in close to 20 years - though I appear to be headed that way once again - should be fun.

Sorry, Mike! I hang out on lotsa gear boards and when talking fender everyone uses abbreviations! This may help:
PR = princeton reverb
DR = deluxe reverb
BM = bandmaster
BMR = bandmaster reverb
TR = Twin reverb
DS = dual showman
DSR = dual showman reverb

Sometimes it gets all jumbled up with talking fenders & mesas cuz the fender abbreviations commonly use R for reverb but mesa uses it for RECTIFIER!
