i came across an 1980 les paul standard a couple weeks ago and I have been have pickup issues. The bridge pickup works great. The bridge tone and volume controls work fine. When on the in between position i get no signal if the neck pickup is turned up all the way but if i roll the volume knob down i get output but it sounds as if its very muddy as if the neck pickup is only working alittle. then when on the neck pickup selected i get no volume if the knob is up all the way, but when i roll it back a little i get a very very very faint signal.

I check all the wiring and its looks great. So is it the neck volume pot, or the switch or something else?

Sounds like you may have a blown pickup
Ihad a similar problem with my sg
replaceing the pickup solved it
