Yep.. that there's THE Close Encounters moment. Considering the movie wan't released until 10/77, I doubt the tones were played two months prior...

Ya really. WTF? That makes no sense.

NOW, there is a small sequence on DP12 from june of '74 in "The Other One" that Kind of sounds like the begining of the main "JAWS" Theme almost a full year before it's release. At least it sounds like it to my ears.

I hear ya on some of your complaints about it and tend to agree on some of them, all too often in the late 80's ya just knew what was coming. Though There's just so many versions that completely kick ass. 9-3-77 and the Eugene Close Encounters show immediatley come to mind.

There are at least TWO Close Encounters shows. The one I attended happened at the dawn of the MIDI era: 7/15/89 Deer Creek(near the Richmond, IN setting for CE).

...about 10 minutes into Space, a brief quote, much like the two quick ones that popped up of the 1/22/78 solo Jerry example, but laced into a full orchestralesque Space with Phil, Bob & Brent participating, all w/ MIDI sounds- Garcia on the cosmic bassoon/french horn.

Ya, I believe they also did a mini "Close Encounters" tease at one of the Alpine '89 shows but really I think these pale in comparison to the '78 show.

I'm shocked the person who made this thread chose West LA Fadeaway...Garcia's leads on In The Dark are smokin. Til the Morning Comes is without question their worst song. haha

I dig "Till the Morning Comes" much more so than the reverred "Attics" on that album.

Plenty of "West LA's" live just didn't have the right swagger and attitude to come of great. For an absolutley excellent version check out the Alpine '89 show On the "Downhill from Here" DVD.

Attics was all about the harmonies. The one time I saw it live, they absolutely nailed it.

On another topic I found interesting, on XM I heard a show that had Sunrise in the setlist. Of the two Donna tunes, I prefer this one, and I thought vocally she nailed it. Thought Jerry could have done more with the song to make it fit in with Dead material better. I just did a quick check of Deadbase and found it interesting that basically after the first performance of From The Heart Of Me, they dropped Sunrise (only did it one more time, right around that same time). You'd think if they were giving DJ a tune in the show, she'd go between the two she had....so she was more repetitive then even BW! Just thought I'd ramble/mention.

I listened to this disk again just last Friday on the way to the ski area... 'Made me want to do Sunrise for my own enjoyment.
The part about Breezes from Winds inside your body was about Jer cuttin' cheese on stage, right?
